Myrna Josephine Pedersen Godwin, 88, of Sandy, Utah, died August 23, 2025. Myrna was born January 10, 1937, to Harold and Sophie Pedersen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald LeRoy Godwin. She is survived by her 6 children, two sons, Ronald LeRoy Jr Riverton, Utah, John Clarence (Deanne) Herriman, Utah, and four daughters, Deborah Petersen Riverton, Utah, Tamra (Gary) Young West Jordan, Utah, Laura (Veno) Innocent Sandy, Utah, and Kristina (Steve) Miya Sandy, Utah. She also has 15 Grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Myrna graduated from South High School in 1955 and the University of Utah with a degree in Elementary Education in 1959. She graduated Summa Cum Laude. She was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority and Phi Kappa Phi. She married Ronald LeRoy Godwin on July 12, 1955, in the Salt Lake Temple.
She loved children and taught elementary school for a few years until her third child was born, at which time she went to work as a full-time mother and wife. She was a loving and caring mother who didn’t stop with just her children. She became the resident mother to many of the out-of-state college friends of her children. She would gladly accept anyone who needed her. She was knowledgeable about everything and gave great advice. She was a wonderful grandmother and cared greatly for her grandchildren and their needs.
She was an amazing seamstress. She made her daughter’s wedding dresses, and many of the other dresses or vests needed for the weddings. She loved to work on genealogy, working hard on her mother’s Hungarian line that had been sealed for many years after World War II. She worked in the Boy Scouts of America for several decades. She and Ron worked at the Jordan River Temple for many years, along with many church callings.
She loved traveling with her children. With 6 children, there was always an opportunity to accompany someone on vacation. She was able to travel all over the United States along with many foreign countries.
We would like to give a special thank you to all the people who helped our mom throughout her life, and especially at the end. She had many people who loved her, and she loved them also.
