Myrna Joyce Moss Coates

1934 ~ 2023

Myrna Joyce Moss Coates was born in Mount Pleasant Utah to Leroy Harold Moss and Ilene Nielsen on September 19, 1934. Myrna passed away after a brief illness on June 9 surrounded by her family.

On June 9 in 1951 she married her high school sweetheart Ralph Lee Coates in Moroni Utah. They were completely devoted to each other and their three children, 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. They had homes in Redlands California, Provo and Salt Lake City Utah. Together they traveled the world always exploring, learning and growing together.

Myrna was a loving, doting mother, grandmother and homemaker. Her homes were a beautiful and comfortable refuge for her family and friends. She shared an entrepreneurial spirit with her husband and was a talented and successful Cosmetologist. She was a whirlwind of activity making sure everything and everyone was cared for.

Myrna was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed serving in many callings throughout her life including a two-year mission to the Salt Lake Inner City. She attended BYU while living in Provo and studied art and culture. She enjoyed volunteer work at the Salt Lake Art’s Center and was a member of the Utah Symphony Guild.

Myrna is survived by her husband Ralph, her daughter Jennifer (Shaun) and her sister Vickie (Milton). She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Stephen (Sylvia), her daughter Diane (Doug) and her brother Mont.

In 2018 her sweetheart Ralph became afflicted with late onset Alzheimer’s disease. She spent her final years seeing to his care and comfort. She left us too soon and too quickly.

We would love family and friends to join us for her funeral service at Larkin Mortuary 260 East South Temple on Friday June 16 at 11:00 am, viewing before at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Moroni City Cemetery. For those unable to attend, services will be streamed via Zoom.
