Gordon Ernest Smith

1946 ~ 2018

Gordon Ernest Smith, 71, passed away on September 3, 2018 in Murray, Utah. He was born in Culver City, California to Margaret Laura Christie and Ernest Gordon Smith. He served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. In February 1977 he married Carmen Marie Child in the Los Angeles LDS Temple and they moved to Sandy, Utah in 1979 where they still reside. He was the first in his family to earn a college degree, doing so when he was almost 40 years old.Gordon had many interests including airplanes, fast cars, biking, rock climbing, hiking, softball and thinking about electronics. He worked in electronics where he was awarded 7 patents. He was lucky to have a career he was passionate about. In later years his interests turned to inventing. His proudest invention was the Accujigger. He was a hobby machinist and woodworker. He was also active with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Assistant Scout Master for 5 years.

He is survived by his wife, Carmen, their children Heather, Washington, DC; Russell (fiancée Mary) Reno, NV; Allison Bilas (Scott), Copenhagen, Denmark; Carolyn Louise Schenk (Sebastian), Hong Kong, 3 grandchildren Calvin, Warren and Ruth and a brother Ron. Preceded in death by his son Spencer and his parents.

Services will be heldat 11am on Saturday, September 8th at the LDS chapel located at 11777 Willow Wood Drivein Draper. A viewing will be held on Friday evening from 6-8pmat Larkin Sunset Gardens 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy and Saturday morning from9:30-10:30amprior to the services at the church. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens.
