Obituary
Nancy Jo Reed Allred, born March 26, 1950, passed peacefully on October 5, 2026, surrounded by her children, after a long battle with multiple health conditions.
Nancy was born in Helena, Montana, and raised in Appleton, Wisconsin, with her parents, Glen and Dorothy Reed, and her two younger sisters, Sue and Merry (Missy). Her love of horses and dogs began at a young age, and she started her dog-training career with their family dog, Sandy, while still in elementary school. An avid reader, she also discovered a love for drawing, often doodling horses with skill throughout her life. She spent the majority of her life and career training or grooming dogs.
She graduated from Appleton Senior High School in 1968 and attended both Brigham Young University and Lawrence University. She worked as a horse trainer and ranch hand and loved sharing stories from her time with horses. She then lived in Lake Havasu, Arizona, with her parents and littlest sister before serving an LDS mission in Switzerland and France, returning to Brigham Young University upon completion. She took pride in her mastery of the French language, which she carried throughout her life.
She married Dean O. Allred in 1976 and, with him and her sister-wife, raised the children on a small farm in West Jordan, Utah.
She will be remembered most fondly for her love of animals, her love of knowledge, teaching youth, language arts, and reading.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean O. Allred; her sister-wife Caryl Joyce Allred; both her parents; her sister Merry Oldfield; Dean’s son, Bruce Allred; and her beloved granddaughter, Arianna Allred.
She is survived by her sister Sue Byrns; her children, Ben Allred (Chrystal), Beth Walls (Chris), Alice Moseley, Miriam Allred (Shawn Pester), Sarah Allred, and Esther Graves (Scott); Dean’s children Dean Allred, Jr. (Kim), Launae Steenbergen (Rodney), Dan Allred (Lynette), Brian Allred (Fawn); Caryl’s daughter, Diana Allred (Merle); and multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Public Visitation will be held on October 9, 2026, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at 3688 West 12600 South, Riverton, Utah 84065. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the same location. She will be buried in Taylorsville Cemetery, next to Dean, following the funeral services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made via Venmo @Miriam-Allred-1 to assist with Nancy's final expenses.
