Listen to Obituary

Nancy Stone White, 79, peacefully returned to her heavenly home on April 4, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with dementia.

Nancy was born on December 8, 1945, in Lubbock, Texas. Her parents, William and Violetta Stone, raised her and her sister Sue Ellen mostly in Grand Junction, Colorado. Nancy grew up on her family’s ranch where she helped her dad take care of the land and animals. Nancy had a passion for horses. She loved riding horses whenever possible. She had a strong love for all animals but especially for horses. Throughout the years she trained many horses and provided a loving home for many dogs and cats, she had a few favorites that she really enjoyed.

After graduating from Grand Junction High School, she attended Baylor University for a short time. People loved Nancy and the light and laughter she brought to their lives. She was an example of charity and the love of Christ. Nancy had a great sense of humor and was always ready for an adventure. She enjoyed being active. Up until the last 8 years she loved being outdoors. Camping, hunting, fishing, 4 wheeling and hiking and playing card games were some of her favorite adventures and things to do. She loved watching movies in the theatre and would always be up for a movie night, even if it meant she went alone. Later, Netflix became her hobby.

Nancy has always been a hard worker. She started young, working on the ranch with her dad and then worked several different part-time jobs before starting her career. Some of those jobs included a ranch resort in Montana, Dairy Queen, a lumber mill in Idaho and another lumber mill in Bend, Oregon. As a career she worked for over 20 years at the Salt Lake County Treasurer’s office. She worked collecting and posting real estate taxes, and later as a redemption clerk. She enjoyed her co-workers and her time there. She also worked for Trans America real estate tax service company before retiring. After retiring from the county, she started driving school bus for Jordan School District. She loved driving kids to and from school and on field trips.

Nancy met and married Gary Browning in December 1965. They later divorced in 1967. She later met Tom White, they were married in 1970 and married for 34 years during which time they welcomed into their home two beautiful daughters, Trisha and Kimberly. They later divorced in 2004. She also loved Tom’s son from his previous marriage, Tom Jr.

Nancy lived in many different places and always made the most out of every place she lived. She enjoyed cooking and making meals for her family and friends, she was an excellent cook and really enjoyed entertaining. Sunday dinners were always a big hit at Nancy’s house. Her goulash, pot roast, potato corn chowder and her carmel popcorn are some of our most treasured recipes.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she loved the Lord and her Savior Jesus Christ. She found joy in serving her neighbors and especially loved being around and serving the youth.

At the time of her passing she had ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She loved spending time with her children and her grandkids. She was always very family-oriented and enjoyed spending time with them as much as possible.

She is preceded in death by her parents William and Violetta and a grandson, Logan. She is survived by her daughters Trisha (Tom) Langford of Eagle Mountain, Utah, and Kimberly (Travis) Ricks of Clearfield, Utah, and her stepson Tom (Dena) White, Jr., of Hacienda Heights, California, as well as nine beautiful grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

We want to express our thanks and appreciation to the staff at Chancellor Gardens Assisted Living and A+ Hospice service for their continued care and support to our sweet mother. We are so thankful for their tender care and support. She had many special treasured friends from her time living there over the past five years.
