Obituary

Our amazing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Nancy Warren Erickson passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 12, 2026, 2 months after her 95th birthday! She was born in Salt Lake City to Frank and Elizabeth Warren on April 7, 1931, and describes her childhood as a little rebellious but a lot of fun. While she attended East High School, she worked with her father in his TV and radio shop on Main Street, the first of it’s kind in Salt Lake City. She helped customers choose music to listen to and sold records. She loved to go to dances and listen to big bands play. It was on one such occasion that she met Ken Erickson. They fell in love and were married in October, 1948, and later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they have 5 children: Sydney Maudsley (Mike), Peggy Schanz (Eric), Warren (DA), Kay Lundquist (Dave), Holly Trapp (Phil), 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Raising 5 children was a full-time job and especially challenging, as Dad was often on the road, working for weeks at a time. She was always there to support us in everything we pursued, and instilled in us the value of work, service and respect for others.Later on, she worked at various part-time jobs including Northwest Pipeline and the Convention Bureau.Along with church service, she served in the Salt Lake Temple and volunteered as a hostess at the Church Office Building and Joseph Smith Memorial Building, for many years, and formed great friendships there.

Mom was always busy. She loved to cook, sew, knit, garden, ski, play golf and travel. She loved learning and had a curiosity about everything. She read or listened to hundreds of books on tape over the years while she knitted. After being introduced to Alexa 8 years ago, she finally had someone who could answer her thousands of questions. But most of all she loved learning about people. Whenever she met someone, she wanted to know their story, and people always left her company feeling valued, appreciated and loved.

Although macular degeneration robbed her of her eyesight for the past 20+ years, it didn’t rob her of her positive attitude, her sense of humor, or her zest for life. She was grateful in every circumstance and took every opportunity to express that gratitude. She was an inspiration to everyone who knew her and will continue to inspire us through the years.

Nancy was looking forward to a reunion not only with Ken, but with her mother and “daddy” who both passed while she was a young mom. She is also joining her sisters Barbara Pryor and Annette Ridges and brother, William Newman. The family would like to thank her dear friends, neighbors and ward members who looked out for her, gave her rides to church, brought her the sacrament and visited her often.

Mom was always up for an adventure whether it was traveling to Europe, Japan or Mexico, going on a cruise, riding in a hot-air balloon or parasailing. She loved to walk and hike and amazed everyone by hiking Horseshoe Slot canyon with “her girls” for her 80th birthday. Now 15 years later she is on to the biggest adventure of all! Bon Voyage Mom! We love you!

Funeral services will be held at the Cottonwood 4th Ward, 5565 S. Neighbor Lane, Monday, June 22 at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 S., Sunday, June 21 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and just prior to the funeral from 9:45- 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will take place at Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery, following the funeral.

Tributes

The word “darling” comes to my mind when I think of my Aunt Nancy. I can hear her say it describing those she loves. She is a darling herself. What a positive wonderful role model for us all! Being welcomed and cherished into her home is a memory both crisp and delightful. Our many weeks of beach play with our Aunt Nancy, Uncle Ken, and all us cousins are great remembrances. I still like to play Racko!

I first met Nancy more than 40 years ago when her daughter, Kay, married my brother and became part of our family (one of the greatest gifts our family has ever received).

Nancy had a remarkable way of adding light to every room she entered. Her warmth, kindness, and genuine interest in others made people feel welcome, valued, and cared for. She truly was sunshine in human form! I deeply admired her positive outlook and the grace with which she met life’s challenges. No matter what came her way, she kept moving forward with strength, optimism, and love!

My heartfelt sympathies go out to Sydney, Peggy, Kay, Holly, Warren, and the entire Erickson family. Your sweet Mom will be missed.

My brother Dave was very fortunate in having such a lovely and amazing woman, as Nancy was, for his mother-in-law. I was very blessed and honored to personally have known Nancy and I'm so very grateful for all the moments I spent with her. Fond memories of sitting around her dinner table, laughing while talking and playing nose flutes (a questionable "instrument") and asking Alexa off-the-wall questions will forever stay with me. My thoughts and prayers go out to my beautiful sister-in-law Kay (love you!), her siblings Sydney, Peggy, Warren, Holly and their families as you all navigate Nancy's passing, as well as celebrate her amazing life.
