John Mark Madsen

1983 ~ 2015

John Mark Madsen, age 32, returned to his Heavenly Home on May 21, 2015. He was born on February 5, 1983 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Erik Madsen and Janet Green Madsen.

John was raised in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. He graduated from Brighton High School, where he was senior class president in 2001 (having run on the platform: "Vote for John; he's Johnarrific!"). John attended a year of college at Southern Utah University on a music scholarship for the oboe, after which he served an LDS mission to Berlin, Germany. Upon completion of his mission, he attended Brigham Young University, graduating in English. In 2004, John married Janae Sharp with whom he had three beautiful children, Danielle, Mark, and Andrew. John and Janae divorced in 2012. John earned a Masters degree in public health at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and studied medicine for several years at the Commonwealth Medical College in Scranton, Pennsylvania. John later moved to Gainesville, Florida where he worked as a transplant coordinator at a non-profit dedicated to helping those in need of organ donations.

John was vibrant, creative, sensitive, and funny. He cared for others with a love that was strong enough to be nearly palpable. John enjoyed hiking, camping, and rock climbing. He loved creating and consuming music, literature, and art; through them he felt the presence of the divine. He always had a joke or amusing story (often told with a different voice for each character) ready to brighten the day of whomever he was with. John was a beloved father, son, brother, and friend. He will be deeply, deeply missed.

John is survived by his three children, Danielle, Mark, and Andrew; his parents, Erik and Janet; his siblings, Christina Wong (Roy), Peter (Kathryn), Karen (TJ Mather), Paul (Brooke), and Matthew (Carlie); and his 16 nephews and nieces who adored their uncle John.

A visitation will be held on Monday, June 8th from 10 AM to noon at Larkin Sunset Gardens, located at 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy, Utah. A brief graveside service will immediately follow the visitation at 12 noon in the same location.
