Our beloved Mother, Nelly Ortiz Newbold, at the age of 69, returned to her Father in Heaven on July 27th, 2024 after a long and courageous fight against cancer.
She was born, Nelida Ortiz, on November 21st, 1954 in Murray, UT to Josefa and Cirilo Ortiz. She was a cheerleader and songleader at Hillcrest High School, where she met her future husband Randy Newbold in study hall. They were married in Clark County, Nevada, at the Little White Chapel, on June 26th, 1976. They were later sealed together for time and all Eternity in the Jordan River Utah Temple.
She was employed by Copperview Recreation Center as a Receptionist. Nelly was passionate about sports, a little too passionate at times. Her favorite sports to watch were baseball and tennis. Her favorite teams were the Cubs, Braves, and whoever was playing the Yankees. Nelly loved little children and her favorite calling in the church was in the Nursery. Nelly could light up any room with her smile. She loved making people laugh and she was the ultimate jokester.
She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Randy; her children, Ryan, Allison, Matt; sisters, Gloria, Teresita, Felicita (Don); brothers, Joe (Zenaida), Dave (Regina); and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Nelly was preceded in death by her mother and father, Josefa and Cirilo Ortiz; sister, Gladys Archuleta; and nephew, Alan Archuleta.
Our family would like to thank the staff of doctors, nurses and volunteers at the Riverton Hospital, and Jordan Valley Cancer Center, who made a difficult time a little easier through their kindness and compassion.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 1st, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary – Riverton, located at 3688 West 12600 South, Riverton, UT. Randy,
Sorry for your loss. Nelly was always easy to be around and very sweet to all of us. Deepest sympathy to your family.
Nellie was the sweetest woman! My husband and I were lucky enough to serve with her in the nursery 12 years ago. We had 13 or 14 kids and they kept us running! One day when it was Nellie's turn to teach the lesson, she came in dressed as a clown! With the clown make-up and clothes and everything! She had brought little carnival games they could play to choose the song. It was epic!
Much love to the whole Newbold family. She will be missed!
Eddie and I send the Ortiz family our deepest condolences. May she Rest In Peace.
