Newell Clynn Mann

1938 ~ 2022

Newell Clynn Mann passed away July 7, 2022, in Murray, Utah. He was surrounded by his loving wife and precious family members.

Clynn was born April 12, 1938, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the son of Newell Call Mann and Mary Helen Goodman. He was the youngest child with two older sisters. He lived his whole life in the Salt Lake City Valley. At the time of his death, he and his wife were living in South Jordan, Utah.

Clynn graduated from Olympus High School in 1956. He attended USU for one year. He was employed by Nu-Art Lighting and Manufacturing from 1957 to 2007. Following retirement, he worked part-time at Lone Peak Elementary for several years.

In 1995, he married Marilyn Syphus Macdonald in the Bountiful Temple. They were married 27 years. Their family unit included Clynn’s four children and Marilyn’s four children. That was a combination of seven sons and one daughter.

During their years together, Clynn and Marilyn served in the Jordan River Temple, the Draper Temple, and the Oquirrh Mountain Temple. They also served a mission to Cove Fort from 2014-2015. Many wonderful friendships were developed through these years of service. He also enjoyed his “empty-nester” friends.

As a young child Clynn had serious health problems. As an eleven-year-old child he underwent ground-breaking heart surgery. He went on to lead an active healthy life. He loved softball, bowling, and working on cars and motorcycles. He also loved pulling kids around the lake with his boat, and fishing. He liked to repair things. Many lovingly called him “the fix-it man”. He excelled at woodworking, including beautiful pens that he liked to give away. Growing a garden, especially tomatoes was a must. Later in life he became an avid reader.

Clynn loved the Lord. He developed a firm faith in the scriptures and the gospel plan. He took great pleasure in simple things. Watching his children and grand-children grow and develop their talents was rewarding to him. He lived 84 happy years.

He is survived by: his wife, Marilyn; four children, Newell Clay Mann, Michael Chris Mann (Tam), Shelley Mann Larson, Shaun Christian Mann (Tiffany); four step-children, Robert Aaron Macdonald (Adria), Bradley Glen Macdonald (Annie), Andrew Ross Macdonald (Emily), and Colin Gary Macdonald (Joy); 25 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and a sister (Roselyn Stratton).

He was proceeded in death by his parents and a sister, Shirlene Andrus.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 13 at 11 a.m. A viewing will be held Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. There will also be a viewing from 9:30 – 10:30 prior to the funeral. All events will be held at the LDS church building located at 11173 Copper Point Way, South Jordan, Utah, 84095.

Internment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, UT.

Marilyn and family, we are so sorry to read about your family loss. We were just thinking about you two not long ago. We still remember going to the Temple for your wedding. It was a beautiful day. Clay, I am sorry to hear of the loss of your father. I know the void left when a parent passes.
I live across the street from your Grandkids former house on Holly Ln. My son mowed their lawn for several years.
Give my respects to the rest of the family.
