  • Nicholas Tunis Cooley, age 77, passed away on January 23rd, 2022 at his home in Salt Lake after suffering complications from a recent hip surgery.
Born on July 30th, 1943 in Fillmore, Utah to parents Anthon LeRoy Cooley and Edna Lucille Barney. He was the sixth of nine children. During his life, he and his siblings have stayed in close contact. As a youth he had many friends, and was involved in many activities. He enjoyed being with family on hunting, fishing and camping excursions. Nicholas had a sense of humor, and we loved his jolly laugh. At times he could also be very stubborn as he had very sensitive feelings.
Nicholas loved to grow things, play the harmonica, an excellent photographer, and he loved to play golf, when he wasn’t racing cars. A very kind and generous person, he would always attempt to help others in need when he could. He graduated from Davis High School on May 26th, 1961.
In the Salt Lake Temple on the 22nd of March, 1967, Nicholas was married to Tony Patricia Keller. Later divorced, Nicholas loved his three-step children dearly: Dale Keller, Roger Keller and Robin Keller.
For four years, Nicholas was in the Army National Guard. During this time, he was assigned a special assignment, which sent him to Germany during his active years. After completing his assignment, he returned home and was honorably discharged from military service.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Nicholas loved his ward and being able to attend and perform services in the temple.
Nicholas is survived by step-sons Dale Keller, Roger Keller, sister Karen Foster (Wynne), brothers Eugene Cooley (Becky), Neil Cooley (Lyn), Richard Cooley (Leah), Lynn Cooley (Mary), and sister Lucile Branch.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Paula Mae Cooley, his brother Barney Llewellyn Cooley, and step-daughter Robin (Keller) Richardson.
Special thanks to all the wonderful ward members who took such good care of Nicholas.
