Norma "Jill" Hennessey

1937 ~ 2023

Norma “Jill” Flygare Hennessey (85) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday Apr 17, 2023 in Renton, Washington. Jill was born on Oct 18, 1937 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ralph Woodruff and Constance Miller Flygare.

She grew up with her 6 siblings in Afton, Wyoming and LaCanada, California. She graduated in the Rose Bowl from LaCanada Jr High School before the family moved to Wyoming, where she graduated from Star Valley High School. Her father died when Jill was 18 years old and she married George Hennessey the next year. Over the following 26 years, she moved with her geologist husband and their children throughout the western states, while she became proficient in maintaining a thrifty, organized, loving home. After her marriage ended in 1983, she reinvented herself into a successful business woman owning and operating S.K.I. Properties in Park City, UT. Eventually, Jill retired and moved to Salt Lake City. From 2011-2014, she served as a service missionary working security for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Temple Square and the Conference Center.

Jill was a talented artist who will be remembered for her beautiful gardens, paintings, and handiwork. She was a professional ski instructor and loved to be on the slopes. She had great capacity to empathize and care for the needs of others and was proud of the many years she worked with the Adopt-A-Native-Elder program on the Navajo reservation. She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and shared her solid testimony and love of the Lord with anyone in her circle of influence.

She is survived by her children: Robert Hennessey, Spokane, WA; Laura (Rex) Smith, Auburn, WA; Steve (Pam) Hennessey, Springville, UT; Linda Krulish, Fall City, WA; Michael (Nicole) Hennessey, Salt Lake City, UT; 16 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Carole Davidson, St George, UT and brother David Flygare, Everett, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents, four siblings, and son Paul Hennessey.

Interment will be in the Ogden City Cemetery following a private family memorial service.
