Obituary

“Hatched, Matched, and Dispatched”

Norma DeEsta Noffsinger, 101, passed away peacefully June 21, 2026, in Bountiful, Utah.

She was born January 9, 1925, in St. Anthony, Idaho to Emma (Hansen) Sidwell and John W. Sidwell but due to her mother’s illness, was raised from the age of 2 weeks old by her aunt and uncle, Hansenia (Hansen) Burr and Perry A. Burr. When Norma spoke of her parents, she was referring to the Burrs and Norma lived her life as Norma Burr.

Norma moved with her parents to Provo Bench, Utah in 1925 and they lived on a fruit farm for 5 years. They then moved to Susanville, California where Norma first attended school. Norma spoke often of her life there and how she enjoyed it. The family later moved back to Provo where Norma graduated junior high and high school in 1943. After graduation, she wanted to assist with the war effort so she went to San Francisco, California. There she worked in a large room with many other women collimating binoculars for the troops. It was here that she met and fell in love with Harold Noffsinger. Harold was briefly stationed in San Francisco and they met in church. He was immediately smitten and they were married the following year, February 6, 1946, in the Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake City Temple. They settled in Salt Lake City after their marriage. Both were very active members of the 31st Ward and Norma worked for Bell Telephone until her retirement in 1990.

Norma was a life-long and active member of the church. She served in the Salt Lake City Cambodian Mission with her husband, Harold. After retirement, she served in the Salt Lake City Temple until recent renovations and she was looking forward to seeing the updates. As many of you have heard her say, “Heavenly Father is my very best friend!” and she meant that. Norma was the stake primary president for many years and worked closely alongside her dear friend, Gerry Scharman. Norma loved the children and had such an impact on their lives that she still receives Christmas cards from several of them along with family updates and pictures.

Norma’s other love was the animals! If you knew her, you knew her passion for saving all animals and treating them with kindness and respect.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold on February 20, 2003, her parents, her siblings, Jack, Elese, Glendon, Kenneth DeEsta, Bernita, and Gerald, and one granddaughter, Elizabeth Robinson.

She is survived by her son Michael (Cynthia) Noffsinger, her grandchildren, Mike Noffsinger (Kelly), Michelle Noffsinger, and Bill (Myra) Noffsinger, and numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend our gratitude to Renew Hospice and Amada Senior Care for their compassion and care of Norma. A special thank you to Austin and Laura, who for the past six months have been a loving part of her life.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 27, 2026, 11:00 a.m. at the Salt Lake Garden Park Ward Chapel, 1150 E. Yale Ave. Friends may call Friday evening 6:00-8:30 and Saturday morning 9:30-10:45 at the church. Internment Salt Lake City Cemetery.

Tributes

I only had the pleasure of meeting her a couple of times when I would visit Cynthia, Mike and Ang. She was very sweet and I really enjoyed her stories. From what I heard from her, she had a pretty good life and she loved my sister Cynthia and her pets. She made sure that I knew that. She was a sweetie. Rest In Peace Miss Norma.
