James Jay Kristiansen

1944 ~ 2017

James Jay (O.J. or Jim) Kristiansen of Salt Lake City passed away March 29, 2017 at a local hospital of natural causes. Jim was born in Rigby, Idaho on October 10, 1944. At an early age, he and his parents moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended Lowell Elementary, graduated from South High and attended the University of Utah. He served in the military from 1965 to 1967 fighting in Vietnam.

After an honorary discharge, Jim started selling cars and was top salesman for several years. He later owned and managed Advantage Sales and Leasing of Autos. At the time of his death he was the owner and manager of Advantage Tree Care.

Jim had many interests in his life. He, along with others, started the Free Riders. The group spent many enjoyable hours riding and exploring the country. They also had an annual tradition of playing Santa Claus for elderly people and disadvantaged children. They spread cheer, toys and goodies for several years with Jim acting as Santa Claus. Jim has been a sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 22 years.

Jim is survived by his special daughter, Jennifer (Jenny) Felter and his granddaughter Alexis (Lexi). They have been the light of his life. He also has many friends and relatives that will miss him and his big smile. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ida Lovell Kristiansen and his father Alf T. Kristiansen. Jim took special care of his mother before her passing.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S.) in Sandy. The viewing will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the mortuary followed by the graveside service at 2:00 p.m. We will celebrate Jim's life with a ride on Saturday, April 15 at the Alano Club, 5056 S. 300 W. in Murray. KSU at noon.
