Glenn A Hancock

1923 ~ 2016

On December 30, 2016 Glenn A Hancock slipped peacefully from this life and into the waiting embrace of his sweetheart. He was 93.

Glenn was born September 13, 1923 in the tiny enclave of Bluebell, Utah to Alva Dewey and Florence Hancock. He was from true pioneer stock and was raised to work hard, which he did his entire life. He was a surviving son who chose to honorably serve his country in World War II. That deployment took him around the world. In 2014 he participated in the Honor Flight back to Washington DC where he was able to see the monument dedicated to him and his fellow veterans. It was a humbling highlight of his life.

He was married to his love, Janeal Parkin, for 66 years. They raised their five children in Holladay, Utah and lived there until 2014 when Janeal broke their unspoken agreement and died before he did. Since that time Glenn has wanted nothing more than to join her.

Glenn was also preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, a granddaughter, Nicole Meier, a grandson, Jeremy Hancock, and a great grandson, Skyler Jack Graham, and perhaps most poignantly, his brother, Morris, who died in the war—separated, but never forgotten, for 73 years. We can only imagine the sweet chaos of Dad's reunion with those who have loved him for so long from that higher realm.

Glenn was a lifelong faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a generous, hardworking man with great integrity. In 1952, against rational advice, he started a small business that beat the odds and continues to thrive today.

Our sweet father died much like he lived—quietly and without fanfare—from complications related to a stroke. He is survived by his children: Don (Kathie) Hancock, Linda (Jon) Meier, Mark (Ka) Hancock, Kevin (April) Hancock and Susan (Kent) Diamond, as well as 17 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren—including our new Maverick who hasn't quite arrived.

The family would like to express our deep gratitude for the care Dad received while waiting to join Mom, especially for the angels at Carrington Court who watched over him and grew to love him.

Glenn's funeral service will be held Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 12 noon at the South Jordan 4th Ward, 2550 West 9800 South, South Jordan, Utah. A viewing will be from 10:00-11:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in the Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy, Utah.
