James B. McNeil, 74, of Castle Rock passed away May 25, 2018 at St. John Medical Center. He was born April 10, 1944, in Payson, Utah, to James Hyrum and Jewell Katheryn (Berry) McNeil. Jim attended the University of Utah where he studied physical therapy. He worked as a miner in Utah, a nurse in San Diego, a cabinet builder in Oregon and in maintenance throughout his career. Jim was an ordained minister through Bridge Builders Ministries. He enjoyed attending church, woodcarving, puzzles and target shooting. Jim was entertaining, witty and compassionate.
He married Sheila Huff in Payson and became the loving father of her five children. They soon added three more. Jim and Sheila celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 10th.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Sheila; eight children Gary Peterson and Cory Peterson both of San Diego, Jeff Peterson and Paula Peterson both of Shelton, Wash., Wendy Peterson of Baraboo, Wis., Patrick McNeil of Salem, OR, Shannon McNeil of Salt Lake City, UT, and Kelli Shino of Castle Rock; three sisters Ileene Foulger and Mary Lou Roybal both of West Jordan, UT, and Rosalie Halverson of Payson; 26 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; a great great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents and two grandchildren preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 9th at 2:00 PM at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S.) Sandy. Viewings will be held on Friday, June 8th from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and again on Saturday, June 9th from 1:00 to 1:45 PM also at Larkin Sunset Gardens.
