Douglas Edward Pike

1940 ~ 2015

"…I say unto you when I am about to go down to my grave, I might go down in peace, and my immortal spirit may join the choirs above in singing the praises of God." Mosiah 2:28

Douglas Edward Pike was born May 15, 1940 to beloved parents Malcolm and Geneve Davis Pike. He passed away from a sudden heart attack on March 27, 2015 surrounded by loved ones. Doug was born with the gift of music in his DNA. From his earliest years his father and mother fostered that gift, nurturing a legacy of music with which the Pike name has become synonymous. He performed with the Utah Symphony Chorus for almost 50 years, singing baritone and enjoying the works of the great masters. It was not surprising to hear classical music booming from Doug's car stereo or his portable radio as he worked in the yard. And if his classical music weren't blaring for the world to hear, his radio was loudly proclaiming life-altering factoids from his favorite conservative talk radio personalities. Chocolate and Coca-Cola were two mainstays in his diet. He alone helped keep the two companies afloat. Another great interest in Doug's life was University of Utah football. He worked on the sideline crew for 44 years avidly watching games from the sideline and enjoying his payment of a hotdog and a coke. During that time he was on the receiving end of a few memorable tackles that his body wouldn't soon forget. Perhaps the only thing more important to Doug than music or sports was family. He loved having all the family around and soaked in each family dinner, birthday party, and holiday with great relish. He adored each and every one of his grandchildren, attending their games, swim meets, recitals, and school productions. He loved being anywhere with the family. One of his favorite annual family vacations was to Bear Lake. His love, his partner in life, Lucy, always kept him moving. They complemented each other well. Doug was naturally frugal and Lucy by nature is more indulgent. A better match you couldn't find! They were partners through and through and served each other faithfully for almost 46 years. His love of the Gospel sustained him through life's most difficult times. He loved serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Doug and Lucy served a mission to San Antonio, Texas, loving every moment. He and Lucy currently serve in the Family History Center at the Utah State Prison. He held his testimony close to his heart, quietly serving in any way asked. His quiet yet friendly demeanor was loved by all. Douglas is survived by his wife, Lucy Allred Pike, children, Ryan Allred deceased, (Lisa Allred), Matthew Pike (Jennifer), Gregory Pike (Erin), Erin Pike Tall (Mike), Ashley Pike; siblings Thomas Pike and Kathi Pike; adopted family Ruthann, Kyle, Jason and Travis Triggs; many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins.
