Ruth Weenig Burton

1949 ~ 2016

Ruth Weenig Burton passed away on June 27, 2016 in Sandy, Utah. She was born on April 16, 1949 to Christian Frederick Moroni Weenig and Raola Fern Seely in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Ruth married Michael K. in 1971 and together they made a home in Murray, Utah where they raised six children: Amy (Phillip) Merrill, Nicholas (Shelly) Burton, Sarah Burton (Stephanie Fischio), Jessica (John) Kotter, Rebecca Burton and Andrew (Rachelle) Burton. Her greatest joy came from being a wife and mother, and then a grandmother to 14 beautiful grandchildren.

She was a wonderful force of love and light, and lived a life of service. She strongly believed that looking outward and finding a way to help others was a key ingredient for a good life.

Ruth earned her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Utah in Elementary Education and Fine Arts. She loved artwork, music and the beauty of nature. She also loved teaching, and spent many years sharing her love of the Gospel, writing and piano by teaching these subjects to students young and old.

With her husband as her companion, she served two French-speaking missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ‚ the first in Madagascar/Reunion Island, and the second in Burundi/Democratic Republic of Congo.

Ruth was enormously grateful to family and friends for their prayers and acts of kindness during cancer treatments. The family also extends their gratitude for the support of so many during this time. If anyone prefers, an alternative to flowers is a donation to the International Rescue Committee for support of refugees (rescue.org).

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the Riverbend chapel, 8825 South Monroe Street (150 West) at 11:00 a.m. Viewings will be held at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 from 6:00 ‚ 8:00 p.m., and Wednesday at the church from 9:30 ‚ 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Elysian Gardens.
