Duane Chandler Parry Jr

1938 ~ 2013

Duane C. Parry Jr. passed away on the morning of September 16, 2013. Duane was born March 4, 1938 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Duane C. Parry Sr. and May Padley Parry. During his childhood, he was troubled with sickness, but was always taken good care of by his mom. He enjoyed the time he spent growing up playing catch and going to baseball games at Derks Field with his dad. Duane graduated from South High School in 1957. He married Thelma Jeanette Cottle on June 26, 1959. Duane and Thelma raised three sons together: Douglas, Gene, and Scott.

Duane was a career professional truck driver for 44 years while working for Zellerback Paper, IML Freight, and Dixon/Xpedex. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 222. Duane was a self-taught, all-around handyman in his own house and for his family. There was never a project he wasn't willing to take on. Duane had many special times with his three sons and grandchildren. He so enjoyed the fun times shared as a family going camping, fishing, and taking vacations to Disneyland. Duane also loved watching his sons and grandchildren play sports. Duane himself was an avid runner and ran a total of five marathons until knee injuries no longer allowed him to run competitively.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ronny. He is survived by his wife Thelma of 54 years; his three sons: Douglas (Noreen), Gene (Kari), and Scott (Shannon); and five grandchildren: Courtney, Zach, Sami Jo, Kolby, and Kade.
