Jason Lynn Stoker

1978 ~ 2014

On January 19, 2014 our husband, father, son, brother, uncle and best friend went home to meet his Loving Father. Though sorrowed to lose such a loved one, we are comforted to know that a season of trial and pain is now over, and that loved ones on the other side of the veil have brought him into their warm embrace.

It is often said that there is a fine line between genius and insanity. Jason Stoker was a man who effectively straddled this line with every step he took. Literally born with a black eye, Jason came into life swinging and ready to take on the world. From a very early age, he had an inquisitive mind. Not content to take your word for anything, Jason was constantly investigating anything that caught his interest, whether it be the inner-workings of a washing machine, or the practicality of rappelling out of his second-story bedroom window. With such intense curiosity it probably surprised no one that this maverick would become an engineer. Jason received his Bachelor and Master degrees in Material Science and Engineering at the University of Utah. Like his grandfather before him he was proud to have worked at ATK Thiokol as a Rocket Scientist. Until his death he worked for Zodiac Aerospace as a material science engineer. Even more than his work he loved to teach children about science.

Jason was born on December 17, 1978 in Provo, Utah to Ronald Lynn Stoker and Jeanie Maria Krause. After the tragic death of his mother at the age of ten, he reluctantly accepted but eventually found comfort in his new mother Melanie. Jason's outgoing personality drew everyone to him, including girls. While he was pursued by many, eventually Shelly Robbins caught his eye. She has loved him since she was 12 years old. They were married on August 26, 2006. Jason and Shelly are the proud parents of Alahna and William. Jason loved his Alahna-bug like no other. His "Little Man" William was too cute for Jason to discipline. Unbeknownst to Jason, Shelly is expecting their third child. This surprise is something that he had been hoping for.

Jason is preceded in death by his mother, Jeanie Maria Stoker, his brother-in-law, James Fackrell, and his favorite bearded dragon lizard "Big Boy." He is survived by his beloved wife, Shelley Stoker, his daughter Alahna, son William, parents Ron and Melanie Stoker and his siblings, Melissa Hughes (Levi), Nathan Stoker, Ryan Openshaw (Amanda), Michelle Lewis (Cameron), Tyler Openshaw (Laura), Emily Reece (Jared), Brooke Andreason (Matt) and Sean Stoker.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at the South Jordan Highland Stake Center, 10227 South 4000 West. A visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy and from 9:30-10:30am on Thursday morning prior to the services at the church.
