Our beloved Mother and Grandmother, Seeny (Asenath) Jane Bigler Owens, quietly passed away August 6, 2019 after a long battle with non-smoking lung cancer and then heart failure that resulted from the cancer treatments.
Seeny was born January 19, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan, but grew up in the San Bernardino area of Southern California. She graduated from Pacific High School and then spent some time at Utah State University before returning home to marry and start a family.
She worked almost 20 years for the County of San Bernardino in various capacities. She was Secretary to the head of the Department of Building and Safety. Her favorite work was as Facilities Manager for the Department of Land Management in which she helped plan and design office spaces. Seeny loved and studied interior design and architecture.
Later in her life she moved to Utah to be near her children and grandchildren where she worked both in retail fashion and as a wedding planner and bridal consultant. Seeny had style and that style found its way into all her work as well as her home.
Seeny had a wonderful enthusiasm for life. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in various callings. She loved to cook, kept an immaculate house, enjoyed travel and the outdoors. She liked hiking, cross-country skiing, and going to the beach. She enjoyed the fine arts and going to museums and the theater. But most of all she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and visiting with her nieces and nephews and her good friends the Bell family.
She is survived by her two daughters, Cathy (Clark) Miles, and Loranne (Dave) Mellon, her brother, Gene (Karolin) Bigler, and sister, Ann (Jan) Memmott, and her five grandchildren, Alicia (Mane) Lara, Aaron Miles, Elizabeth Miles, Andrew Mellon, and Alexis Mellon. She is preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Phyllis Bigler, her brother, Bert Bigler, and one granddaughter.
After a private, graveside service, she will be laid to rest near her granddaughter at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Sandy, Utah.
