Dorothy Louise Thomson Jonas

1914 ~ 2017

Our beloved Dorothy passed away in Payson, Utah on Tuesday, July 25, 2017. She was born on January 26,1914 in Ephraim, Utah, the fifth child and only daughter of Daniel Henry Thomson and Karen Kirstine Christensen (Stena). Dorothy was married to Frank H. Jonas, in Seattle, Washington in 1934.

An active and devoted member of the LDS Church, she was a thoughtful, caring neighbor. Dorothy sang in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir from 1953-1976, the Utah Symphony Chorus from 1976-1986, and the Pro Musica of Utah. She was an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Professors Emeriti Club at the University of Utah, and University of Utah Women\s Club. A highlight of her life was journeying to her musical Mecca, the Bayreuth Festival in Germany to attend Wagner's operas. Her other interests included the performing arts, gardening, travelling to anywhere, history, geology, mythology, environmental causes, and sharing her beloved mountain cabin with family and friends. As an elementary school teacher, she was greatly admired by her students, many of whom stayed in touch with her throughout her life.

Dorothy is survived by four children: Frank H. Jr., Karen Clark, Leland (Patty), and Richard. She was blessed with six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband Dr. Frank H. Jonas, professor of Political Science.

Services will be held Friday, August 4, 2017 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Federal Heights Ward, 1300 Fairfax Road, Salt Lake City, UT, across from the Shriners Children's Hospital.

Viewings will take place Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, UT and Friday, August 4, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Federal Heights Ward, 1300 E. Fairfax Road, Salt Lake City, UT.

Interment is at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
