Lorraine Selland Hansen, age 96, passed away Tuesday, August 5 in Bountiful, Utah of causes incident to age. Born June 21, 1918 in Wyndmere, North Dakota to Gustav and Alice Johnson Selland. Married March 2, 1940 to Glenn S. Hansen in Salt Lake City, Utah. Later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
She was born of hardy Norwegian stock, raised a North Dakota farm girl, one of 12 children. By heritage and the training of her Mother, Lorraine worked hard, raised a family of five children and was dedicated to family, friends and church service. Never afraid of a challenge, she came to Salt Lake City at age 18 to start a new life…and never left. She married Glenn, 12 years her senior, and embarked on a long life of challenges, accomplishments and joy. After retirement from many years of service with the Utah Transit Authority Lorraine served an LDS Church mission to Jacksonville, Florida.
Lorraine is survived by two of her children, Sheila Hansen and Scott (Sharon) Hansen, 12 Grandchildren, 25 Great Grandchildren, 7 Great Great Grandchildren, and her Brother Norman Selland. She is preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Hansen and three daughters, Sydney Stewart, Susan Hansen and Sallie Jensen, four Grandchildren, Jeff Barrier, Brad Hansen, Andrew and Benjamin Miller, and 10 Siblings of the Selland Clan, Ida, Gilma, Nels, Henry, Edwin, Grace, Gordon, Glennis, Arne and Harland.
A viewing will be held Sunday, August 10th at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Graveside services will be at 10:30 AM Monday, August 11th at Elysian Gardens Cemetery, 1075 East 4580 South, Salt Lake City, Utah.
