“I love the Holy Ghost with all my heart, and I can’t express how grateful I am for the gift it is in my life. I have often said I don’t think I could have survived through this life without the Holy Ghost.”

Nothing describes Patsy Brazier Hewlett Goates better than her simple statement quoted above. In the silence of her hospital room in the early morning hours of July 25, 2023, she slipped away quietly and peacefully into the spirit world. Her potential passing came suddenly upon us all without any warning. We gathered frequently over the past two weeks to revel in her glowing spirit and the joy of her existence: her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a true disciple of Jesus Christ. Patsy knew the power of prayer and called upon it at all times. She enjoyed many callings in the Church, but particularly loved working as a missionary in the Professional Placement Program of Employment Resource Center in Salt Lake. Patsy excelled at encouraging those around her to reach their potential. She loved the temple and cherished the opportunity to serve as an ordinance worker with her husband David in the Salt Lake Temple. A diligent student of the scriptures, she prioritized her study and then lived what she learned in those pages.

Patsy tirelessly served her family and rejoiced in any opportunity to gather with them at the Ranch to celebrate, enjoy good food, and perpetuate the rich traditions that unite us. Her beloved posterity is her ultimate legacy: Jeff (Kim), Dianne (Clark Bayles), Emily (Jay Warnick), Mike (Kris), Steve (Tina), Rich (Shauna), Joe (Toni), Melanie (Phil Sharp), Jake (Heidi), Allie (Tanner Venema), Andrew (Jessica), and Merilee (Michael Litchfield). Her youngest daughter Adrienne preceded her in death, and we rejoice in their reunion.

Quick with a smile and a plate of cookies, she wore out her physical body as a testament of her love. She has gone ahead for a while and will prepare every needful thing for all of us. She laid down all her burdens at the feet of her Exemplar, the Lord Jesus Christ, and like Him, it could be said of her:

And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen. (John 21:25).

Please join us for a celebration of her life at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the Francis Ward building located at 387 W. Last Frontier Lane, Francis, UT 84036. A visitation will be held on Friday evening from 6-8pm as well as from 9:00-10:30 am prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the Woodland Cemetery.

The suddenness of Patsy’s passing has deepened the grief of her not being with us anymore. I mourn with you, but also celebrate with you her faith filled life. There is not a more pure example of Christ’s teachings than Patsy’s day to day exchange with those she loved and strangers alike. Her rest is rich, sweet and complete. Continued prayers for the many that miss her warm and generous spirit. I love you Goates family.

I hope that someone in the family gathers all the talks/memories shared/messages given today celebrating Patsy and shares a copy with me. There is much to learn from each other as testimonies were given regarding Patsy and the legacy she has left of her love of the Savior, love of David and her family, and her love of the Temple.
Patsy, you were always there.

David and family, Vickie and I attended Patsy’s funeral this morning, as you know, and were overwhelmed by the love and support ❤️ that we felt from you and your wonderful family for your wife, their mother, grandmother and great grandmother. I didn’t know Patsy well but I have felt of her love and affection for her family roots at the funerals of our grandchildren. You and your family have been greatly blessed by Patsy’s life and love and will continue to grow stronger because of her eternal influence. God bless and keep you all. Randy

Dear Goates family,

I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of your beloved mom. Losing a loved one is never easy, and my heart aches for you and your family during this difficult time.

Though I cannot fully comprehend the depth of your pain, please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Your mom was a remarkable person, and her presence will forever be cherished in the hearts of those she touched. Her spirit and love will continue to shine through the memories you shared together.

We believe in the eternal nature of families. May you find comfort in the knowledge that you will be reunited with your dear mom sooner than later. Until then, I hope you find strength in the support of your loved ones and the comforting embrace of our faith.

With heartfelt condolences and love,

Gómez and family,

Aunt Patsy, it was only a month ago we were in Grandma Julie's room as you faithfully assisted in seeing her transition to the other side, and you and I had our final interactions as Aunt and nephew on this side of the veil. Thank you for always being so welcoming, loving, and encouraging. I never heard you say anything negative of anyone even if everyone else was saying everything negative. You are a lighthouse. You are the definition of what it means to be Christlike. When I began my career you and Uncle David helped me navigate such a time in my post-mission, single and then newly-wed life, and coming to your home to talk with you was a cherished memory, talking to you while you wiped down the kitchen counters...I don't think I've ever seen you actually sit down. May you now rest that fully worn tabernacle and your Spirit soar in service and love in the next realm. I pray I live life well enough to meet you there. Your family is so blessed to have had you as their Mother, Wife, Sibling, Grandmother, and I'm so thankful for my Aunt Patsy, whom I'll miss. I love you.

Oh my sweet and wonderful older sister. How I loved and enjoyed knowing you for seven decades. We had so many wonderful times growing up, songs for hours on the player piano, swimming in the family swimming hole on the Provo, days at the Homestead, horseback rides, movies in Kamas, and playing games during June thunderstorms in the Uintas. A better sister never could a brother have had than you. Your love of Deity , the Restored Gospel, His Holy House , and your unfailing testimony stand as a beacon to all who had the honor of sharing your life. Rest for a moment, then minister tirelessly in the spirit to all of your bounteous loved ones, and inspire them with your love and goodness through our mortal sojourn. You are now an official angel , having been one for seven and a half decades on earth. I love and honor you as an adoring brother.
