Patricia (Johnson) Bergen, “Patty” passed away peacefully with family by her side on December 23, 2023, from complications related to a fall. She was 81 years old. Patty struggled for several years with physical limitations and health issues, but she fought courageously, not letting her limitations prevent her from enjoying every moment she could with her loved ones. Patty’s family grieves her loss but takes comfort in knowing that she is with her Heavenly Father.

Patty was born on January 31, 1942, to George and Helen Johnson. She was one of five children. Patty graduated from Granger High School and attended Utah Valley Trade Tech. She retired from Qwest. Patty was married to the love of her life, Michael Bergen. Together they shared three daughters. She was a lifelong, faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Patty worked hard in her life, and enjoyed many hobbies and passions such as baking, sewing, cross stitch, puzzles and movies. She loved music and had recently gained interest in yard work (via YouTube videos). She never tired of receiving Winnie the Pooh themed presents from friends and family. Patty had an eye for unique and fun items, and the next new gadget that she could purchase. This made staying at Grandma Patty’s house a new adventure every time. Patty loved to travel with her husband. This often included traveling around the country to visit family and friends and going on cruises. Patty will also be remembered for her love of the holidays. The holiday traditions that she established will be carried on for generations to come. You could count on Patty to show her patriotism on the 4th of July in the form of red, white and blue clothes and accessories. During Easter, bunny cakes were a must and during Christmas baking was a necessity, but most of all, Patty’s genuine anticipation and excitement during the holidays was contagious to all of those around her. Patty had a special gift of remembering the birthdays and anniversaries of all her friends and family. She will be remembered for her thoughtfulness and care for those around her. When spending time with Patty, one could look forward to the wit and humor that she brought to the room, which always resulted in at least a few laughs shared by all.

Patty is preceded in death by her parents George Wallace Johnson, Helen Jardine Johnson and Carmen Johnson, brothers Robert “Drew” Johnson and James Wallace “Wally” Johnson. Patty is survived by her husband Michael Bergen, her daughters Tricia Johnson, Erin Naea (Mulo) and Monica Saucedo (Jose); her grandchildren Tamika Naea, Sofi Naea, Malia Naea, Jose Saucedo Jr, Soleil Saucedo; great grandchildren Malosi Tichenor and Josiah Tichenor; sisters Evelyn Waters, Ruby Roberds (Russ), Tracy Roscoe and Laurie Leonhardt (Dennis); her aunt Kay Godfrey and many nieces and nephews.

The family is holding a funeral service to celebrate Patty’s life on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 12 noon at the Winslow Park Ward, 3219 South 300 East. There will be a visitation on Friday, January 5, 2024, from 6 to 8pm at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, and Saturday from 10:45 to 11:45am prior to the services at the ward. For those unable to attend, services will be streamed via Zoom. Please click on the watch services link above.
