Obituary

Patricia B. Wood, lovingly known as Pat, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026, at the age of 92. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, education, and service that will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.

Born on September 30, 1933, Pat dedicated her life to her family and community. Family was always at the center of her world, and she found her greatest happiness in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her home was a place of warmth, love, music, and encouragement, where generations gathered to create lasting memories.

Pat graduated with honors from the University of Utah with a degree in Music. She was an incredibly talented singer, being highly sought out as a solo artist. She combined her love of learning and teaching during her career at Eisenhower Junior High School, where she taught both Music and Mathematics. Her students benefited from her patience, knowledge, and genuine desire to help them succeed. She had a remarkable ability to inspire others and instill confidence in those she taught.

A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Pat faithfully served throughout her life in many capacities. Two of her most cherished callings included leading the music for her congregation and preparing the weekly Sunday worship programs. She led the music in different church services into her 90s. She approached these responsibilities with dedication and care, finding great joy in serving others through her talents and testimony.

Outside of her professional and church service, Pat was famous throughout her neighborhood for her beautiful rose gardens. She spent countless hours cultivating and caring for her roses, transforming her yard into a vibrant display of color and beauty. Her roses became a beloved neighborhood landmark and reflected her lifelong commitment to making the world around her a little brighter and more beautiful.

Pat is survived by her sons, Chris (Julie) Wood and Spencer Wood (Katie Peck); her daughter, Stacey Wood (David Farmer); nine grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. Pat was preceded in death by her father, Burton Birkinshaw; mother, Virginia Elizabeth Showell Birkinshaw; sister, Valarie James; and her granddaughter, Amanda Leigh Wood. She was deeply loved by her family, and her greatest joy was watching her family grow and thrive.

Pat will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her devotion to her family, her love of music, her commitment to education, and the kindness she extended to everyone she met. Her example of service, hard work, and compassion leaves a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire future generations.

Though she will be greatly missed, her family finds comfort in the knowledge that her influence lives on in the many lives she touched as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, church member, friend, and neighbor.

"Her life was a beautiful melody of faith, family, service, and love, and its echoes will be felt for generations to come."

We love you Grandma Pat.

I have such fond memories of Pat and all her family. Sunday’s at Grandma Ginny’s (or Grandma B’s) when we were kids, and later, Milius Family Pie Parties with the next generation. I’ve heard many shared memories from my dad (Joe Milius) from his years growing up with the Birkinshaws, and I can picture my mom (Gayle Milius) doing Pat’s hair between dinner and dessert at Grandma’s too. We are all looking forward to sharing stories as we gather to celebrate Pat this weekend. She was extra sweet with Monty and Mason when I introduced them to our family. Monty remembered her from his days as a student at Eisenhower Jr. We send our love to Chris, Spencer and Stacey, all their collective families, and the James Family as well. You all occupy a special place in the hearts of the Milius Family.

What a wonderful friend! We have been friends for several years. She loved our visits and taught me many things. Her rose garden brought joy to everyone in the neighborhood.
She was musically gifted. She lead the music in our ward with such enthusiasm. Everyone sang because she brought the spirit into the meetings.
She always took pride in her personal appearance and dressed up every day.
She always expressed the love she had for her children.
I will miss her!!
