Our dear aunt, cousin and friend, Patty Lynn Ryan, died peacefully at Lone Peak hospital on November 14, 2022. She was born April 21, 1944 to J Stewart and Ellen LaRue (Cook) Ryan in Salt Lake City, Utah. She had one older sister, Renee, who she adored. Her family moved to Michigan when she was two and she grew up mainly in Battle Creek, MI. She attended college at Utah State University where she obtained her undergraduate degree in Child Development and Elementary Education. She was also a member and officer of the Chi Omega Sorority and a Family Life Senator. She received her Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Wayne State University in downtown Detroit. She taught 1st Grade for 2 years and then Kindergarten for 32 years in Michigan, Rochester NY and Utah before retiring at age 56. She built her home in Sandy in 1992 and was a devoted caretaker for her mother until she passed away. Pat has been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life, serving in various callings including Relief Society president and her favorite – ward chorister.

After retirement Pat was a temple worker in the Jordan River Temple for seven years and volunteered at St. Mark’s hospital as a receptionist for 16 years. Pat loved to travel and spent many summers doing just that. Some of her favorite trips were to Europe, Branson Missouri (for all the variety shows) and Hawaii. She also loved musical theater and going out to lunch with friends and family. After her sister’s death she adopted the role of surrogate grandma to her sister’s grandchildren and was very involved in their lives. She was known as a prolific “snail mail” correspondent and became a hub of information for her entire extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister. She is survived by her niece, Carol Lynn (husband Dave) Ward; surrogate grandchildren Danielle (husband Braydon) Gish, Rachel (husband Alex) Remund, Ryan (wife Katie) Ward and Logan Ward; great-grandchildren Olive, Harper, Dax, Cache and Afton.

The funeral service will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at the Midvalley 6th Ward, 1106 East Old Dairy Rd. (8050 South), Sandy, UT. Viewing for family and friends will be prior to the service at 10:00 am. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
