Paul Howard Holmes passed away peacefully the morning of September 29, 2022
He was 84 years old.

Paul was born on February 8, 1938 to Edward Joseph Holmes and Helen Jensen Holmes. He was the second of four boys and had an idyllic childhood growing up in Holladay, Utah with his brothers. He especially loved cruising around in his 1955 Thunderbird. He attended Olympus High School and after graduating, served in the US Army. He attended the University of Utah where he studied architecture. Upon his father’s death in 1967, Paul quit school in order to take over the family building business.

Paul was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served a mission in Toronto, Canada. He married Elna Kaye Baer on June 7, 1962 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have 4 children. He held several church callings over the years; serving in the Young Men’s program was one of his favorites. In his later years, he loved serving in the Salt Lake City Temple on Wednesday afternoons. He had a never wavering testimony of Jesus Christ and continued to share that with his family.

Paul ran a successful construction company, Holmes and Jensen, for many years. He loved the building business and was known for his honesty and integrity. He made many friends over the years with his dry sense of humor and generous heart. Paul loved spending time with his family. His favorite places to be were Lake Powell, on his boat, and the golf course. He taught all his children and grandchildren to golf. He was never happier than on the golf course. His early years were spent at Willowcreek Country Club, and up until a month before he passed, he spent almost everyday at his new “country club” Meadowbrook. He enjoyed his many friends and colleagues there.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother at birth, Edward Joseph Jr and his brother Robert. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Elna Kaye; his 4 children, Susan Knight (Jeffrey), Heather, Paul Jr and Andria; 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and his twin brothers: Bruce Holmes (Joan) and Brent Holmes (Lucy).

We will miss our father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. We will always remember and cherish his kindness and generosity, as well as his humor and positive outlook on life.

Services will be held Tues, Oct 4th, 11:00 AM at the Holladay 27th Ward building, 5450 S Holladay Blvd. Viewing will be that morning from 9:30-10:45. Internment to follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E Dimple Dell Road, Sandy Utah 84092.
