Peggy Ann Ratliff Ortiz

1936 ~ 2022

PEGGY ANN RATLIFF ORTIZ

Born October 1, 1936 in Salt Lake City, Utah; Died October 30, 2022 in Sandy, Utah, age 86.

Peggy was the only daughter of Frank W. and Gladys E. (Ellefsen) Ratliff. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jess Ortiz, and her brother Frank J. Ratliff. She is survived by her brothers, Fred (Janis) Ratliff and Gary (Gabby) Ratliff. She is also survived by her 4 daughters, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She graduated from East High School. She and Jess lived a number of years in Yuma, Arizona where she worked as a secretary, and later moved to West Valley, Utah where they ran a successful day care for many years.
Peggy loved children. Her day care kids always called her “Nana” and they called Jess “Poppa”. Shortly after Jess’s death, she retired and closed her day care. She enjoyed doing crochet and made many beautiful things to give as gifts. She had good neighbors and friends around her. She loved giving dinner parties for family and friends. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she decorated her home lavishly. She loved giving Christmas gifts to her family, especially her mother, with whom she was especially close.

She loved genealogy and did a lot of research. Many family members have benefited from her work, especially her brother Fred.
Although she always claimed that her mother loved her brothers more, it was a family joke. Everyone knew the deep bond of love between Gladys and her only daughter.

Peggy’s family wishes to thank the caregivers at Sandy Health and Rehab for the outstanding care they have given her for the time she resided there.

The funeral services are scheduled for November 7, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Larkin Mortuary located at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 S.), Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held at 1 PM – 1:45 PM. Internment is at Elysian Gardens, 1075 E 4580 S, Millcreek, Utah.

Guestbook/Condolences

I have served at the Mingo Branch for six years and have enjoyed visiting and getting to know Peggy. She could always make you smile and she had a good sense of humor. She was a great lady and I enjoyed being with her. She will be missed but I know she is now at peace and is home.
May you all feel comfort at this time.
