Obituary

We lost our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife and “dear” daughter June 1, 2026. Penny Lynne Murphy was born February 16, 1942 in Salt Lake City, Utah to David William (Gramps) and Marjorie Ione “Deed” Reese (Scott).

In her youth Penny was involved in ballet, and studied under William Christensen of Ballet West in Salt Lake City. Penny married LaMonte Earl Murphy September 23rd, 1960 in Salt Lake where they raised their three children Marci, Mike and Misty. The Murphys spent many winters skiing at Alta where they had a cabin, and Monte taught youth how to ski jump. Many good times were had camping, and Penny loved the outdoors, music and dogs. Music was a big part of home life on Namba Way, with many instruments being played, songs being sung, albums being spun, and silly dancing. Eventually Penny and Monte divorced.

Penny worked many years at St. Marks Hospital where she met many long time friends. Penny loved her church (Latter-day Saint), the Utah Jazz, the Brady Bunch, her grandchildren, and great-children. Penny most of all loved rescuing dogs. She spent her later years specifically rescuing elderly dogs, a truly very special gift she had. Penny was loved and will be missed dearly.

Penny is survived by her three children Marci Forney (Cliff), Mike (Dee), Misty Murphy-Ohran (Bill), her beautiful grandchildren Stephani, Michael, Tyler, Tysha, Gabrielle, and Kevin, and her very special

great-grandchildren: Enya, Aidan, Liam, Ronan, Kyler, Kiera, Maylo, Beatrice, Maude and Glacier. This is her legacy.

There will be a burial on June 11th noon at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. In Penny’s honor you can make any donation to her favorite rescue https://www.utahbassethoundrescue.com

Tributes

I really enjoyed working with Penny on our “Ocurrance” days. She at her house and me at my house and we would communicate through the Messenger. Once a month…or whenever our Comcast would give up on us… we would meet at the call center. Penny was always very pleasant to talk to and to be together at the center… always with that big smile of her. My condolences to the family that she adored so much.
Penny, until we meet again. You will be missed❤️
