James Leonard Love

1948 ~ 2017

James "Jim" Leonard Love, our beloved father, grandpa, brother and friend passed away November 23rd 2017 in his home from natural causes. He was born on May 12, 1948 in Salt Lake City to Jay Leonard and Beth Sheffield Love. To know Jim was to love Jim.

Upon graduating from Highland High School, Jim served honorably in the Navy in Vietnam. He made lifelong friends there that he cherished until his last day. Life events pushed him to pursue a degree in Occupational Therapy, so he could help people as he'd been helped. He worked at Utah State Hospital as Excel House Manager for nearly 20 years until he reluctantly, but never regrettably, retired. Again, lifetime friendships were formed and cherished.

Jim was never as happy as he was spending time with his grandkids, watching his Utes play football or reading a book, but was truly at peace when at Bear Lake. He loved his family and friends very much. Special thanks to all those friends that were really considered family, especially Cork, who was like a brother to him.

Survived by his son, John Love (Christi); granddaughters, Taylor, Hailey and Abby; his love, Sally Porter; Siblings, Beth Ann Hammer (Gordon), Claudia Murphy, Scott Love (Deb) and Laura Fotheringham (Mark). Jim was welcomed with loving arms by his parents, Vietnam Brothers who didn't make it home, and countless people that loved him during his life.

A viewing will be held at Larkin Sunset Lawn 2350 E. 1300 S., Salt Lake City Utah Saturday, December 2nd from 1:00-1:45 with funeral services following at 2:00. Burial at Larkin Sunset Lawn will directly follow the service.
