Richard S. Blonquist

1937 ~ 2018

Richard S. Blonquist, our dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, passed away at age 80 on February 15, 2018 due to acute leukemia. He was born August 2, 1937 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Moral Seth and Erma Lorraine Blonquist. He married Mary Jimenez on March 5, 1960 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They had three children; Lisa Wiscomb (Robert), Dave Blonquist (Kristyn) and Steve Blonquist (Yolanda). They had four grandchildren: Nicole, Ashley (Lisa), Brooke, Alec (Dave). He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and beloved wife Mary. He has two siblings still living, his twin brother Robert P. Blonquist, and sister Joyce Musser.

He was a hard worker his whole life. He was forced to get a job young, after the death of his mother. He worked for Hercules early in his marriage and retired from Chevron Oil with 25 years of service. While working at Chevron he made many great life-long friends that meant the world to him. He loved making new friends, even if it was the grocery clerk or receptionist at his doctor's office. He was a very giving person and loved to serve others. He always asked if he could do anything to help his children, neighbors or friends. He spent 14 years taking care of his wife Mary while she struggled with dementia. Even when he had cancer, he would worry about helping someone else.

Everyone that knew him, knew that he loved to tell stories. We would all hear about the stories of his past many times. We appreciate learning about our ancestors that we never met.

He lost his mother to a tragic car accident when he was 14 years old and never got over the loss of her. Although we feel a great loss with him gone, we are so happy that he is reunited with his parents, other family members and the love of his life. He will be with her to celebrate their wedding anniversary on March 5th.

A viewing will be held on Friday, March 2nd from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens on 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road (10600 So.) A graveside service will be held the following day on Saturday, March 3rd at 10:30 am. at Larkin Sunset Lawn on 2350 E. 1300 So.
