Captain David John McAnulty born February 28, 1930 died July 26, 2013 son of Hawley and Evelyn McAnulty survived by his wife Mary McAnulty and children David McAnulty, Dr. Jonathan McAnulty and Dr. Melinda McAnulty, as well as his grandchildren Shawn, Heather, Sierra, Hannah and Tessa.
He graduated from New York State Maritime Academy in 1950 and served as an officer of the Navy from 1950-1981 reaching the rank of Captain. He served in the Korean War on a medical ship the USS Consolation, was executive officer of the refueling ship USS Truckee and commanded the USS Belmont, a technical research ship, as well as was instrumental in clearing the Suez Canal of live ordinance and sunken ships for safe passage in Egypt. He was Captain of Explosive Ordinance Disposal on both the Atlantic and Pacific. He was passionate about his work, always striving for a job well done. As a naval officer he lived near the ocean and imparted to his family a love of the sea.
He was also passionate about golf and was able to play and plot his victories into his 80′s. He taught his family how to play and many memories were born on golf courses across the United States. He loved his family, and ensured that his children would grow up educated and with two feet planted firmly on the ground.
His final passion was to his wife to whom he was married over 50 years. He provided love and support throughout all their years together until his last breath. He was a remarkable man.
There will be a memorial service at Larkin Mortuary Thursday 6 pm (2350 east 1300 south, Salt Lake City, Utah.) Many thanks for the care given by both Beehive Senior Care, Affinity Hospice and all who cared for David along the way.
