Jacqueline Geneve Rohde Hadlock

1924 ~ 2017

Jacqueline Geneve Rohde Hadlock, aged 93, passed from this life to the next peacefully and quietly at her home on the afternoon before Christmas, 24 December 2017. Jackie (as she was called) was born 4 December 1924, in Salt Lake City, to Ralph and Pearl Jack Rohde. She was the oldest of three children and loved her siblings Ralph and Norma.

She enjoyed her childhood growing up in the area now known as 9th and 9th. At Hamilton Elementary she was a member of the pipe and drum corps. She enjoyed hiking the surrounding mountains with her brother Ralph. After graduating from East High School she attended the University of Utah where she was a member of Omicron Nu Honorary Society and Lambda Delta Sigma Sorority. She graduated in 1946 with a BA in Dietetics.

While waiting for her sweetheart to complete his LDS mission she also served in the Western States mission headquarted in Denver. While there she was first introduced to Native American art of the southwest which remained a lifelong interest.

Jackie and Milo Steele Hadlock were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on 7 June 1948. Together they raised 5 children. She was a hard worker, kept an immaculate home, enjoyed working in the yard, yearly canned a supply of fruit and jams, cooked nutritious meals and sewed many of their clothes, teaching each of her daughters to do the same. Jackie was active in church serving over the years as pianist, organist, secretary or teacher in all the organizations. She was also active in the PTA serving one year as secretary of the Salt Lake Council. Milo and Jackie embarked early on in a side business of building homes. They built 5 of their own, first in Idaho and then in SLC, a 4-plex apartment building and then 3 homes for their children, the last one when they were aged 69. She remembered kindly all the subcontractors they worked with over the years. When her children were older she completed requirements to become a Registered Dietician, subsequently working many years at Cottonwood Hospital where she eventually was Director of Dietetics and Food Service.

She was an active outdoors woman enjoying tennis, biking, skiing, hiking, camping and sightseeing and traveling the world. She loved the southwest desert of Utah and shared that love with her family on yearly camping trips. She and Milo also enjoyed square dancing together for many years with Electric, and Happy Squares.

Jackie was a righteous and honorable woman who expected high standards from herself and others and lived by the motto, "if there is anything virtuous, lovely or of good report, or praiseworthy, we seek after these things."

The family would like to thank all the caregivers from Right at Home who have assisted with her care these last 4 years.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years Milo Hadlock, her children Milo Rohde Hadlock (Jeannine), Mary Ann Van Alstyne (Peter), Susan Kruger (Russell), Margaret Douglass, Kenneth Jack Hadlock (Debra), her loving sister Norma Rohde, 19 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her dear brother Ralph. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, December 30th 11:00 a.m. at the Murray 32nd Ward house, 5555 South 700 West, Murray Utah.
