Robert Gale Desmond

1927 ~ 2016

Robert Gale Desmond, following a lifetime of service passed away peacefully at home on June 1, 2016 at the age of 89. Born March 18, 1927 to Leslie Conrad and Ida Potter Desmond in Heber City, Utah.

Dad married his high school sweetheart, June Sweat, in the Salt Lake Temple on June 3 1946, just three days after she graduated from Wasatch High School where he had graduated the previous year, and thus began their lifetime of service. Dad faithfully served in any church calling he was given including many years as a dedicated scoutmaster, 10 years as a Bishop, served four service missions, three of which he served with his sweetheart including 10 years as a temple worker.

Dad learned to work hard in his youth during the depression and continued to work hard throughout his life. He worked for the Postal Service 32 years in addition to working a part time job yet he always had time for family and church callings.

Dad loved music. Time with him in the car or at a campground was always filled with song. He had a beautiful voice and taught his children to love music as well. He was an avid fisherman yet would abandon his own rig to tie hooks and untangle lines for his kids. There was nothing dad wouldn't do for his family to show he loved us. His family was his most important accomplishment and he loved to share that with others.

Dad is survived by his eternal companion of 70 years; children, Mike (Gwen) Desmond, Lynn (Sherrie) Desmond, Steven (Judy) Desmond, Karen (Leon) Oborn, Sandra (Frank) Faldmo, Dianne (Darin) Lee, his brother Dick, 24 grandchildren, and 57 great grandchildren with 3 more on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, 3 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild, who we are sure welcomed him home.

The family would like to thank Diane, his healthcare giver who lovingly took care of our Dad with patience and compassion.
