Thomas Kenneth Wintch

1927 ~ 2019

Thomas Kenneth Wintch passed away Saturday, May 25, 2019, in South Jordan, Utah, having completed his 91st year of mortality. He was born May 26, 1927, to Frederick William Wintch, Sr. and Emma Louise Ventris at the family home in Manti, Utah. He married his sweetheart Enid Jensen from Redmond, Utah, in the Manti Temple on August 13, 1945. He served in the U.S. Army. He and Enid lived in Manti, Utah and Redmond, Utah where daughter Elaine was born. Next, they moved to Provo, Utah, where he worked for Geneva Steel. It was there that daughters Kathy Lynn and Leanna were born.

He loved to hunt and fish and helped to feed his family that way. He was a pilot and enjoyed flying his airplane to various areas in Washington. He also built a 1940 Indian Sport Scout motorcycle from parts he collected from all over the country and loved to ride it on trips with other motorcycle enthusiast friends.

In 1954, two months after the birth of Leanna, they moved to Everett, Washington, where he worked as a surveyor for a year before being hired by Scott Paper Company. Daughter Janet Kay was born in Everett. After 30 years, he retired from Scott Paper Company in 1983 as a supervisor and manager of Finishing Maintenance.

Back in Manti, they built a home next door to the house he was born in. He had retired early so he and Enid could help take care of his parents in their advanced years.

During his life, he served in numerous callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Most fulfilling were his opportunities to serve for over fourteen years as an Ordinance Worker in the Manti Temple (over twelve years with his beloved eternal companion Enid) and later as an Ordinance Worker in the Oquirrh Mountain Temple.

After the passing of Enid in 1991, he continued to live in Manti until 2007 when he moved to the Salt Lake area and bought a house with two of his daughters, Leanna and Janet. They continued to live together in various homes until his passing.

He is survived by his daughters Elaine Vaughn (Richard-Gilbert, AZ) Kathy Tilby (George-Ely, NV), Leanna Wintch and Janet Wintch. His posterity consists of his four daughters, 17 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Funeral service by Larkin Mortuary will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 31, 2019 at the Garden Park 7th Ward Chapel, 4842 Vermillion Dr., South Jordan, Utah, 84095. Interment will be at 3:30 pm at the Manti City Cemetery.
