Quinten Leon Homer, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on Sept. 29, 2024, after a brief illness. He was born to John Mayhew Homer and Eliza Leone Theurer in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on September 22, 1932, the youngest of five sons.
The majority of his life was spent in Idaho. He graduated from Idaho Falls High School where he was senior class president. During the summer before his sophomore year at BYU, he fell in love with Kathallene Kinney. They were married on August 27, 1953, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They have been an inseparable team ever since, supporting each other’s goals, sharing hobbies, and most importantly, raising their family together.
After graduating from Washington University School of Dentistry in St. Louis, Quinten and Kathie moved to Boise, Idaho, to establish his dental practice. Dentistry was a good fit for a man known for his desire to help others and his ability to make meaningful personal connections. Quinten was involved in many community organizations during the 61 years he lived in Boise, building many life-long friendships. His gift of being able to respectfully listen to differing viewpoints in order to find common ground was particularly helpful during his 15 years on the Boise School Board, including 12 years as president. He also served one year as president of the Idaho School Boards Association.
Throughout his life, Quinten was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and touched many lives through service in various capacities, including early morning seminary teacher, bishop, and temple worker. During his retirement years, he was grateful for the opportunity to serve two missions with his wife in Palmyra, New York, and the Nauvoo Illinois Temple.
Family was Quinten's greatest joy and his highest priority. He cherished every stage of life with his children and always made time for what was important to each of them. He was and always will be their hero. His grandchildren never questioned the love Grandpa Q had for them individually, and they treasure their memories with him. During the last years of his life, he and Kathie moved to Utah to be closer to their family.
Quinten leaves behind a legacy of service, love, faith, and devotion to family. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Kathallene; his 6 children, Tanya Cutler (Dave), Stacey Edgington (Brad), Callie Thacker (Barton), Dana Moss (Brad), Melissa Mortensen (Quinn) and Lance Homer (Mariko); 25 grandchildren; and 69 great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to visit with the family at a viewing on Friday, October 4, 2024, 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., at Larkin Sunset Gardens, Sandy, Utah. A private family funeral will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2024, followed by graveside services at Larkin Sunset Gardens.

We were out of town when we learned of Quinton passing and so sorry to hear that. We feel so blessed to have had you for neighbors at Summit Vista and to get acquainted with such great people.
