Toby Augustus Stanley

1959 ~ 2020

Toby Augustus Stanley, age 60 of Herriman, Utah passed away peacefully in his sleep, February 12, 2020 in the comfort of his own home.

Toby was born July 10, 1959 in Salt Lake City, Utah and became the loving son of Gus and Dona Stanley. He was the second oldest of five siblings. Tony, Tamy (Zane) Roitz, Tresa (Randy) Horrocks, and Traci (Stan) Ingle. He met the love his life Sharon Thayne and they were married August 18, 1979. They created quite the legacy in their 40 years of marriage, by going on to have four beautiful children: Cody (Marni), Travis (Sam), Jeremy (Kylee), Misty (Trever) Sampson, and 14 grandchildren.

Toby's children and grandchildren were the light of his life. He was so proud of his children and all they have accomplished. All his sons developed a love for hard work. They are all very blessed to have the work ethic of their dad, It's brought them so much success in life. Toby loved hearing about all the jobs they were working on, and the accomplishments they were making. He was so proud of Misty and the amazing mother she had become. There are very few things Toby loved more then hearing that sliding door open, and little footsteps headed his way yelling, "Grandpa!" He greeted them all with a big old bear hug, and a "Hey Bud".

Toby had many talents, and never did anything "half-assed" as he would say. He put his all into everything he did. When he did a job, you can bet he was going to go above and beyond. Toby was a bit of a perfectionist. No one could do a job as well as he could. He had the skill and the work ethic to exceed all expectations. This made him irreplaceable and so valuable to his employers. He was very handy and could handle any job thrown his way. He loved working and had skills in so many areas: plaster, lathing, drywall, woodwork, and framing to name a few.

Toby had a love for music. He loved strumming his guitar and singing along. He also really loved the outdoors, camping, boating, shooting, Harley rides, and anything that involved time with his wife and the kids.

Toby lived for adventure, until tragedy struck. Toby was working as a Plasterer and fell 60 feet from a scaffold, resulting in partial paralysis from the waist down and 30 years of pain, frustration, and doctors. Toby never quit fighting though, he worked so hard to be able to walk, and wanted that independence and freedom he once had so badly. This trial he was dealt really showed how much will and determination this man had. "If God puts a Goliath in front of you, he must believe there's a David inside of you." This couldn't be truer for Toby; he did all he could to remain strong and keep fighting for his family he loved so much. This wouldn't have been possible without the love of his life Sharon. She became is legs, and independence. She was his strength, and Toby will never be able to thank her enough for that. He lived through the stories his children would tell him, visits with the grand kids, and trips in his motor home. It took an army, it took his sons stepping up and doing all of the things he could no longer do, this was very hard for Toby because he had always been so independent, but there is no one he would have rather had step in then his children. This trial really made Toby realize just how blessed he was to have his loved ones, and to always appreciate the small things.

Toby was one in a million, an incredible father, husband, brother, grandfather, and son. He was welcomed by his father Gus Stanley for a wonderful reunion we are all sure was one for the books. Losing Toby is a loss that will be felt deeply by many, but we can't help but smile thinking of him and Gus up in heaven running around, grinning ear to ear with their new found freedom and independence, watching over all of us, sharing in all of our joys, pains, struggles, and success. We all feel very blessed to have a guardian angel as special as Toby.
