Jay Donald Poulsen

1923 ~ 2018

Don passed away on February 23, 2018 at the age of 94. He was born October 1, 1923 in Bingham Canyon, Utah to E. Clinton Poulsen and Emma Vida Knudsen. He is the beloved husband of Dorothy Margaret Andersen and father of four children. He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served as Bishop, Bishopric member and on the Midvale Stake High Council. Don and Dorothy served together as sealers in the Jordan River Temple for twenty-five years. Don married his "beautiful sweetheart", Dorothy, in the Salt Lake Temple and they were blessed to spend sixty-six happy years together until Dorothy's passing last spring.

Don worked as an educator and administrator in the Jordan School District. He loved the years he spent coaching the 8th and 9th grade boys' basketball teams at Midvale Jr. High. He worked in the Jordan District Office for a number of years until he moved on to become the Vice-principal at Bingham Middle School.

Don proudly served his country in the Army for three years during WWII in China and Africa. He was the world's biggest New York Yankees' fan and was almost never seen in public without proudly wearing his Yankee ball hat. He was a loyal Bingham Miner and still sang the fight song when Bingham played. He spoke of their football team with pride and one of his favorite sayings was "to get to the state finals they all have to go through Bingham".

Don is survived by is daughters Penny (Allen) Watson, Patsy Halladay, Emily (Brady) Bartholomew and Sharon Smith Poulsen, 17 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, son James Donald "JD", parents, two brothers, Clinton Jack and Kenneth R. and sister, Vida Rae Russell.

The family would like to express thanks to his beloved care givers Love at Home by Sisters, and the staff at Beehive House in Riverton.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E Dimple Dell Rd (10600 So.) in Sandy, UT. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:30 am. Interment will follow at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
