Richard Thomas Malan

1972 ~ 2014

Farmington ‚ Richard Thomas Malan, 41, passed away on February 10, 2014. Rich was born July 21, 1972 in Seoul, South Korea, and was adopted by his parents Arthur and Jolene Malan. He was married to Ashlee Jensen on March 25, 1999 in the Bountiful temple. Together they have two sons.

Rich was a very upbeat, happy person. He had a smile for everyone. He especially loved the youth and the handicapped. His first job was at the Job Corp working with the youth. He graduated from Ogden High in 1991, attended Weber State University, and was working on his Master's in Social Work at the University of Phoenix. He loved rock climbing, cooking and camping. He also loved to work with and repair almost everything. He loved computers and other electronic gadgets, and had many. He was an active member of the LDS Church, where he was an Elder and held many callings. He was especially interested in genealogy. Richard is proof that with faith in the Lord Jesus Christ all trials can be overcome.

Rich served his country in the Army as a paratrooper from 1994 to 1998, and was very proud of his American citizenship.

Rich is survived by his wife Ashlee; sons Jensen and Maddox Malan; parents Arthur and Jolene Malan; sisters Vicki Malan and Michele Thompson; sisters-in-law Aimee Larkin, Lacey Calvert, Cassie Lindberg, Natalie Hall, Marissa Carlile and Spencer Jensen; parents-in-law Richard and Melanie Jensen. He was preceded in death by a cousin Cody Cazier and brother-in-law Christian Richard Jensen. He was loved by all those whom he had ever touched. He will especially be remembered by those he helped. He loved and was so proud of his two sons, and was loved greatly by them.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 12:00 noon, at the Davis Creek 1st Ward Chapel, 825 South 50 East, Farmington, UT, where a visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Interment will follow services in the Huntsville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made at any America First Credit Union branch on behalf of his sons, Jensen and Maddox, for their education and missions.
