  • Ray passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 17, 2020 in Holladay, Utah. He was born May 13, 1936 in Riverside, CA to Halford Boice and Beatrice Taylor. He grew up just down the road in San Bernardino.

Ray graduated from San Diego State University where he met Joyce Wheaton. He then served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Hawaii where he married Joyce in the Laie Hawaii Temple in 1960. Together they had four children.

Ray spent his entire career working for Travelers Insurance in San Diego, CA; Hartford, CT; Denver, CO and Knoxville, TN; retiring to Sandy, UT. Ray’s hobbies included fishing, bowling, and pool. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved the Utah Jazz. Ray was deeply committed to the gospel of Jesus Christ and served in various capacities, always extending love and compassion for those he served. He found joy while serving with his wife in the Pennsylvania, Philadelphia LDS Mission from 1998 to 2000 and in the Jordan River Temple for 6 years. People will always remember Ray for his dry sense of humor, for being highly organized, and for frequently teasing family and friends with a wink and a smile.

Sadly, Joyce passed away in 2007Ray is survived by his sister, Gwen (Jim) Brady; his four children, Lisa Boice, Todd (Marcy) Boice, Tina (Dan) Jackson, and Tricia (Rob) Reeder; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

A public viewing will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road, Sandy, Utah, from 6-8PM on Monday, December 21, 2020. Private services will be held Tuesday for family. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens. Masks and social distancing will be required.

Ray was a good friend and one of my mentors in the Church. I served as his 1st Counselor when he was the Bishop of the Heather Ridge Ward in Aurora, Colorado in the late 1980s. His genuine compassion for other people and his delightful sense of humor combined to make him a very well-loved Bishop. I offer my sincerest sympathies to all of the members of his wonderful family.

My condolences to Ray's family. I worked for Ray at the Denver Office from 1980-1982. He was my supervisor and he always supported me and for that I am forever grateful. I just happened to find his obituary when I talked to someone today from he Denver office. I have a couple pictures of him if you would like them. In 1982, I arranged to having a singing telegram from someone dressed as a gorilla! He took it in great stride. What I remembered about him was his dry sense of humor. After watching the video, it looks like he had a very fulfilling life.
    Kind Regards,
    Penny
