After an arduous battle with a brain tumor, Reed Carter Evans completed his earthly journey Monday morning, Dec 11, 2023.

Born Feb 24, 1949 in Ogden Utah to Blair and Nola Jean Evans, he was raised in Dayton Ohio, where he excelled in High School football and wrestling. After High School, he served as a missionary in the Kentucky Tennessee Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After his mission, while attending Brigham Young University he met his college sweetheart, Dianne Biggs. Shortly they were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on Sept 1, 1971. Reed earned his Bachelors degree of Finance from BYU and pursued a career in business. He enjoyed working primarily as a CFO or Financial Controller in a broad range of industries including: accounting, ship building, lumber, retail, university, medicare, and others. He was very intellectual and had an amazing vocabulary and gift of verbal expression.

Reed and Dianne raised their family in Dianne’s home town of Orange, Texas. They were blessed with 8 wonderful children: 5 boys and 3 girls. Reed loved studying the Gospel of Jesus Christ and serving in The Church. He was Bishop of the Orange Ward for 8 years and subsequently served in the Orange Stake Presidency as a counselor and Stake President for over 10 years. Reed and Dianne greatly enjoyed serving together as missionaries to the Pioneer Ward in the Tongan Stake in Salt Lake City for 5 years.

Reed’s favorite pastime was gunsmithing. He was frequently found in his shop working with a lathe and press on his next gun project. These projects included building black powder rifles with his boys, reloading his own shells, casting his own bullets, carving out gun stocks for hunting rifles, and always trying to fix his .44 pistol from jamming-up. He was also an excellent marksman; competing frequently at the local gun club in speed steel plate shooting and even earning 5th place for speed shooting at The Masters national competition in 1990.

Reed is survived by his wife of 52 years Dianne Evans, and their children Michael (Beverly) Evans, Vaughn (Teresa)Evans, Stacy (Mark) Erickson, Eric (Marnie) Evans, Jacob (Emily)Evans, Brent (Brittany)Evans, Stephanie (Nathan) Hunt, and Kathryn (Nate) Hardy, 31 grandchildren, and 1 great grandson.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, December 19th from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Hawks Bluff Building located at 13003 South 6400 West, Herriman, UT. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 20th at 11:00 AM with a viewing beginning at 9:00 AM also at the church. Interment to follow services at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd., Sandy.

I’m so sorry to hear of Bishop Evans passing. He will be remembered and missed for the wonderful person he is. I know my parents (Alvin and Nelda) gave him a big hug along with other Orange Ward members that went before him. You guys are in our thoughts and prayers.

Love Reed and all the Evans families that I know. Even a few years ago Reed was coming camping with the scouts and sharing his many talents. One of my favorite persons I served with.

I am sorry Diane that Reed has stepped thru the veil, but we both know where he is and what he is doing...right?! He is a good man! He did his work on earth. I pray for you to be able to continue yours. I can't even imagine what it is like to live for a time without your spouse. The Lord will help you as well as your family and your friends. Love Kathy
