Richard "Hob" Hobson

1935 ~ 2020

Our beloved father and grandfather, Richard (Hob) Warren Hobson died peacefully of natural causes on December 10, 2020. He was born in Panguitch, Utah June 18,1935 to Warren Hobson and Luella Ott.

He treasured his small town Tropic roots and fond memories working at Bryce Canyon. While Hob attended the University of Utah, he met Sherlene (Chris) Christensen and they enjoyed a fairy tale romance their 57 years of marriage. They had three children, Paula, Blake and Mona and their lives revolved around creating an eternal family.

Hob worked for Chevron Oil for 25 years as a marketing analyst then enjoyed a second career as a commercial real estate agent. A highlight of Hob and Chris’ life was serving in the New York Rochester Mission as host missionaries at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints historical sites. Our Dad was blessed with a beautiful friendship with Linda Peck that brought him great joy after our mom’s passing.

Hob is survived by his children, Paula Bezzant (Craig Burton), Blake (Diane) Hobson, and Mona (Dan) Debenham, 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Ward Mangum, Laura Cottam, Pete Mangum, Kay Mangum, Steve Hobson, and Casey Jones. Hob is preceded in death by his wife, Chris and his grandson, Blake Debenham.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2020 beginning at 1PM for family to attend.

We loved Hob and enjoyed many years of pinochle competition and the Hobson Open golf championship. Hob was gracious and kind, fun to be around, and a good loser at pinochle. We are thankful for the kindnesses shown to Hob by his family and friends. We will miss him.

The clock stopped ticking for a minute when Dick passed. Have seldom met anyone who was not respected by all who came into contact with him. Only talked a few times after our Chevron days; but, to this day my fondest memories are days spent with Dick and his brother, Pete

My heart goes out to the Hobson family today. Hob was family on my Mother's side and my Dad's best friend (Dick & Kathy Shumway)! All of my life my Dad talked about Hob. When my Dad died we got a letter from Hob and Chris who were serving a mission at the historical sights in NY. It was a very tender letter and was so appreciated, I still have that letter. I would like to think that after being greeted by his family that my Dad was also there to say "Welcome home, I've missed you". Please accept love from the Shumway family at this time.

Dear Hobson family,

The past 4-1/2 years have been filled with love, laughs and joy. Your dear father taught me Pinochle, pool and made me a Jazz fan. He shared his family and his friends with me and filled my life with happiness and peace.

His example of charity, kindness and love will be an influence on your family for generations. I have been left without him and my heart is broken. I know that my future holds joy and happiness. I will always love him and thank God for the privilege of our time together.

we knew Hob for many years since in the 1970s He was always a kind and quiet gentleman and very kind to everyone. He had a good life and had a posterity he could be proud of. May you have the assurance that you will all be together again. I'm so sorry for your loss and wish you peace at this time.

Hob and Chris were such special friends. I am so happy they are together once again. Hob was so helpful to me with the illness of my husband Bob. He always was such a caring person to all of his friends. He liked to visit and cheer up his friends who were sick. He was a good cook and loved making delicious soup. He and Chris were great missionaries In Palmyra. Bob and I loved serving with them. I have fond memories of them both and they will be missed.
Love to your family. Dick left a great legacy.

So sorry to hear of Hob's passing. He seemed so healthy and strong I thought he would live until he was 100. Last time we visited he was making a large healthy meal and plenty to freeze for later. I loved how Hob made you feel so important when you visited. My sister Kristin and I came over for Jennica's wedding shower, we went downstairs to say "hi" to Hob and we never made it back upstairs for the shower. He was so fun to talk with and share memories. He had the best stories and was such a kind and gentle man. He will be greatly missed but I am sure Sherlene (Chris) and Hob are having a wonderful reunion and telling each other wonderful stories. It was so much fun to see the love Chris and Hob had for each other. They always made you feel better for having been around them. A true talent they both shared.

We have such fond memories of our dear friends Hob and Chris. We have enjoyed many times spent together over the years. Chris was the real estate agent that sold us our present home on Bell Tower Lane where she and Hob lived also. Not having known them before, Chris went home and told Hob, “I’ve just sold a home to Dee and Mary Rasmussen that I think will be our good friends”. She was right as we immediately connected as special friends.

We enjoyed trips with them to Palm Springs, Tropic and an extended trip to Peru. We were heart broken at Chris’s passing. We continued our friendship with Hob even after he moved to Draper. We again enjoyed vacations to Palm Spring and other special outings together. We enjoyed Linda as a special friend
as she would join us on various occasions.

Each year we looked forward to Hob’s birthday when he held the Hobson golf tournament and picnic for friends and family at the Wasatch Golf Course in Midway, Utah. He was always so generous with his friendship and time. We will always treasure the friendship we had with Hob and Chris forever.

Love to his wonderful family,

Dee and Mary Rasmussen

Nancy and I express our sincere condolences to the Hobson family. We have missed Hob since he left our Ward a few years following Chris' passing. We know Hob and Chris are having a joyous reunion now. Hob and Chris were the original "people" people. Both Hob and Chris always made you feel like they had known you your whole life, and that you were their special friend, although you had only know them a few years. That is a character trait in desperate need in our world right now. Our condolences especially to Chelsea and Eric, Hob's moving from the ward meant your departure also and your family is also missed in our Ward. Our Ward has truly been blessed by the Hobson's and Theurer's. They both cut a wide swath of service in our neighborhood. We pray that you might find peace at Hob's passing.

We have reminisced all of the good times we have spent with your family over the past many years. We have vacationed together, spent week-ends together, in Salt Lake and St. George. We have watched our families grow. We will miss Hob but will always remember Paula, Blake and Mona. The cousins will remain close in SLC. May peace be with you all. I loved your Mom and Dad and really miss them both. I will never forget your Mom saying that she was on the Banana committee in Heaven and all the reasons why. I'm SO glad that they are together again. What a wonderful Christmas they will have in Heaven this year. Look up the poem "My First Christmas in Heaven". It always brings be comfort. I was sad when your Dad moved away from our ward. He was the best! Your parents made a GREAT team. I will be listening to the service today from my home. Merry Christmas to all of your family.

Dear Hobson family, we were surprised and saddened at the passing of Brother Hob. We considered he and Chris to be dear friends. Hob was a faithful counselor to me while i was Bishop of the Cottonwood 12th ward. He was always so willing and happy to go above and beyond what he was asked to do. I valued his councel and his totally devotion to his fellowmen and to God. I changed counselors half way through my service because we needed he and Lenard Driggs help in a couple of struggling organizations. I did not realize until a few years later how disappointed he was to be released from the Bishopric. He was so devoted and i have always felt badly about that and hope he forgives me. He was one of the most solid, dependable, consistent, and devoted people i have ever known and i love and admire him and always will for those greats characteristics. We offer our love and condolences and sympathy to the family and express our great love for Dick and Chris and there contribution to our lives.

I am very saddened with the loss of Uncle Hob. I know that he is in heaven with the love of his life, Aunt Sherlene, and Grandpa Ray and Grandma Susie. All of whom were very loving to us in the time we knew them. I apologize for not being able to attend services, please know I'm there in spirit. It is unfortunate that his passing happened; but grateful that his passing was as peaceful his life was lived. I look forward to seeing him in the Celestial Kingdom of our Lord, whereas we are all family through our Lord Jesus Christ and His grace extended to all who believe in Him. Uncle Hob no doubt had a intimate relationship Jesus Christ. Until we meet again; my friend in Jesus.

Dick is an extraordinary human being.

He’s a been a wonderful friend and business partner to me who exemplifies kindness and integrity in all aspects of his life.

Dick will be sorely missed.

We were saddened to hear of the passing of our friend and neighbor, Hob. He was a very kind and generous man who had a strong testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ. He had the best yard in the neighborhood and shared his gardening expertise freely with those of us who did not have a green thumb. His smile was infectious and we loved spending time with him. We will cherish the times we golfed with Hob and cheered the Utes to victory with him and Chris. We will miss him but know that he lives on and is reunited with his sweetheart. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mona, Blake, Paula and the entire Hobson family. RIP dear friend. Until we meet again!
