Richard J Salisbury passed away peacefully on Friday, May 22, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Early Life and Education

Richard was born on October 27, 1934, to Frank and Catherine Salisbury. He grew up learning the values of hard work and dedication, traits that would define his personal and professional life. He graduated with a business degree from Woodbury College in Los Angeles, laying the foundation for a remarkably successful career.

A Beautiful Love Story

While attending the Wilshire Ward in Los Angeles, Richard met the love of his life, Suzanne Domack. Their beautiful bond would span nearly 70 years. Suzanne faithfully waited for Richard while he served an honorable mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the East Central States Mission. Very soon after his release, the couple was eternally married in the Salt Lake Temple.

Together, Richard and Suzanne built a vibrant, loving family, raising seven children: Richard Donald, Kathleen (Nielson), David Gary, Robyn, Vicki Jo (who preceded him in death), Scott Lee, and Sherry Kim (Cutler). Richard’s legacy of love continues through his 17 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Life Adventures and Career Milestones

Armed with his business degree, Richard followed his father into the insurance industry. The family shared fond memories of living in the "celestial" cul-de-sac within the Canyon Rim Ward in Salt Lake City. Later, they moved to Lander, Wyoming, where they enjoyed owning and riding horses while Richard worked for First Capital Insurance.

When his father passed away unexpectedly, Richard stepped up to take over his father's position with Diversified Insurance Brokers. This prompted a move to Boise, Idaho, where he managed the prestigious Albertson's account. Richard successfully pioneered a self-insurance program for Albertson's workers' compensation and liability, opening offices in eight states to service their claims. He proudly served as their primary broker for 25 years.

After selling the majority of that business, Richard moved his family to Farmington, Utah. Starting in the basement of his home, he founded R.J. Salisbury and Associates. He specialized in placing insurance for the amusement and real estate industries, alongside several other lines of business. At the peak of the agency's success, Richard managed over $20 million in premiums, served more than 10,000 policyholders, and employed 150 people. He was deeply respected by his peers and loved by his employees.

A Legacy of Faith and Service

Richard was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings throughout his life, some of which include; Elders Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader, Bishop’s Counselor, High Council, Stake Young Men’s President, Stake Missionary and as a Counselor in the Meridian, Idaho East Stake Presidency. Deeply committed to gospel scholarship, he taught early morning seminary and was a Gospel Doctrine teacher in several different wards. Richard and Suzanne served two Spanish speaking missions together. Additionally, he and Suzanne found great joy in serving together as ordinance workers in the Salt Lake Temple for several years.

Farewell

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Catherine Salisbury, his brother Frank, and his beloved daughter, Vicki Jo. He leaves behind a legacy of profound faith, entrepreneurial genius, and deep devotion to his wife and family.

Funeral services will be held Saturday June 6th at 11:00 am at the Bountiful 7th Ward at 1250 N Main Street, Bountiful, UT 84010. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral services from 9:30 to 10:40 am. Interment will follow at the Oakley Cemetery.
