Robert Ernest Bready, 92, our loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle peacefully returned to the loving arms of our Father in Heaven on September 27, 2022.
Robert was born on September 6, 1930, in Long Beach, California to (and is the only child of) William Bready and Elizabeth Louise Everetts. As a young boy he and his parents lived in and near Long Beach city where they sacrificed much and persevered through the Great Depression and World War II.
Robert attended Starr King Elementary School, Lindberg Junior High School, and David Starr Jordan High School where he ran track, played tennis and learned to dance. While in high school at age 17, Robert enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve, in which he received specialized training in radar operations and plotting procedures and completed numerous training cruises primarily aboard World War II destroyers.
After high school graduation, he attended Long beach City College where he showed high aptitude consistent in math, clerical, science, drafting and art. This is when he decided to pursue a career in architecture. He moved to Utah and attended Brigham Young University in pursuit of a college degree and to learn more about the LDS Church. While at the University, Robert became a superb draftsman, earning top grades in the art, and was quickly hired part time by local architects. Robert met Jean Harman, the sister of his coworker, and they immediately fell in love. Robert and Jean were married on September 17, 1952. Robert further investigated the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was baptized a member on June 25, 1952, and on April 15, 1953, Robert and Jean were sealed in the LDS temple for time and all eternity.
Robert’s life-long career as an architect began as a junior draftsman in Utah working on large projects including the new Provo High School, University of Utah Student Union Building, BYU’s David O. McKay classroom building, the Maverick Center and The United States Steel Company, Geneva Works. Robert and Jean moved to southern California and after ten years as an apprentice draftsman he obtained an architect’s license by the State of California and worked for successful architectural firms for the following several decades. In 1974 they moved the family to Kennewick Washington where Bready & Sons Construction was established, focusing on new residential construction, commercial remodeling, and energy efficient “solar” homes that were designed and built by Robert E. Bready, Architect. In 1981 they moved to Boise Idaho where Robert worked for Morrison-Knudsen Corporation, and then in 1986 they moved back to southern California to care for his aging mother. Finally, in 1993 they returned to Utah. Robert retired from architecture in 2002. Robert served the LDS church as a missionary in the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah in 2007 and 2008.
Robert’s hobbies and passions throughout his life include sailing, SCUBA, snow skiing, pottery, baking bread and gardening. His love for the sea and sailing started when he became involved in the Sea Scout program of the Boy Scouts of America, which kept him off the streets and out of trouble during the teenage years and taught him character building and leadership skills from learning seamanship and sailing activities. He continued his love for sailing and the sea and shared it with his sons and daughters in later years.
Robert is survived by his children Robert W. (Lori) Bready, Randall (Gladys) Bready, Brian (Kelly) Bready, Sharon (Rob) Davis, Jon (Stacie) Bready, Michael (Heather) Bready, Sandy Bready Brown, Jennifer (Curt) Norman, 27 grandchildren, and 39 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his infant son Burke Allen, wife Jean Elaine Harman Bready, and parents William and Elizabeth Bready.
A viewing will be held Friday morning October 7th, from 10:00 AM to noon at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S.), Sandy, UT, and a graveside service immediately following the viewing at Larkin Sunset Gardens. Special thanks to Larkin Mortuary for their help with funeral services.

For family Recreation there was a time when I got to go along. I still remember a Saturday at Dana Point sailing and snorkeling with everyone.
