Robert Eugene Turner was born November 29, 1928 to Martin Eugene Turner and Signe Christiansen Turner of Salt Lake City, UT. Robert passed away peacefully on January 3, 2024.

Robert was raised primarily in Salt Lake City with his three sisters, Vivian Joyce Stahle (d), Signe Norma Sturgeon and Caroline Marie Murphy, who were adored by their elder brother. They spent ten years in Venice Beach, CA where Robert learned to surf (served as a life guard) and swing dance. He was quite the lady’s man. Upon his family’s move back to Utah, Robert mastered snow and water skiing. His fun was cut short by his entry into the U.S Navy in 1946, where he served his country during World War II.

Robert served as an active duty radar specialist on the USS Pasadena for two years and the USS Perkins for one year. He also served in the Naval Inactive Reserves for eight years. He tried various occupations but eventually found his niche as a civilian with the U.S. Air Force. During his 25 year tenure, Robert was instrumental in the development of the reentry system for the intercontinental ballistic missile system; this was a critical part of the nation’s nuclear security system.

Robert met the love of his life, C. Jeannine Anderson, in 1951. They were married on February 2, 1952. Robert, a believer in love at first sight, has said he knew he would marry Jeannine from the moment he set eyes on her. Together they had five children, Marcia (Allen Oltmanns (d)), Ronni (d), Jo D. (Gregory Thurheimer), Daniel, and Martin (Carol). They have also have been blessed with eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Nauvoo, IL Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on August 30, 2003.

The two of them created many memories camping and boating with their family, a tradition carried forward by their progeny. Following their retirement, they spent winters in the warmer climates of Arizona until they moved fulltime from their Sunset, Utah home to Beaver Dam, Arizona in 2003.

The family expresses their appreciation to the friends and neighbors who have given their love and support during this difficult time. They would especially like to say thank you to all the staff of Chancellor Gardens of Clearfield, Utah for the loving care they provided Robert during his final days. His compliments and sentiment were genuine and he appreciated you all.

A viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9th, and from 10:00-10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10th, with the funeral beginning at 11:00 a.m. The viewing and funeral will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints chapel at 2141 West 1800 North, Clinton, Utah. Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Guestbook/Condolences

The minute I met Robert at Chancellor, I felt a connection with him. He always had a smile and was so positive. I was a waitress there and loved taking some extra time to sit with him and visit. I was so sad to hear that he passed. He was a unique, kind man.

What a beautiful service. It brought up so many fond, fun memories of Uncle Bob and Aunt Jeanine. I loved the camping, boating, and hanging out at the house. Such a great guy! Love you Uncle Bob.
