Robert J. Minchey

1958 ~ 2023

Robert J. Minchey, our dad and ‘Papa Bob’, passed in his sleep unexpectedly September 5, 2023. Bob was born December 29, 1958 to his parents Eldon J. and Betty Kay Minchey in Salt Lake City, UT.

Bob married Lynette Stringer in 1976 and together they had four children, Jason, Brian, Jennifer and Kyle. They were later divorced. Bob then married Pamela Ruhl in 1994, who had two sons, Matthew and Josh. Bob and Pam had twin boys together, Skyler and Lance.

Bob’s love for adventure and thrill starting at a young age. He enjoyed racing his dirt bike and tearing up trails. He took great pride in racing and climbing what was then referred to as ‘the widow maker’ in Draper, UT. As much as he loved telling his own stories of his racing (and crashing) days, nothing compared to watching his own sons on the track. Bob’s favorite places to be were on the mountain and the lake. We cherish the times we had riding, hunting, and fishing with him. We especially will cherish every long-winded “fish tale” he could spin.

Bob had a career of construction, excavation, and truck driving. He taught us all how to work hard and take pride in our work. He enjoyed creating, building, and welding things for his children and grandchildren. He worked until his last day here on earth.

Bob loved people. He took you in as family the moment he met you. He was a great friend and neighbor and was the first one to offer help.

Bob is survived by his dad Eldon, wife Pam, children Jason Minchey, Brian (Julene) Minchey, Matt Stucker, Josh (Jessica) Stucker, Jennifer (Lars) Johnson, Kyle Minchey, Skyler Minchey, Lance Minchey, his favorite 17 grandchildren, sister Pamela (Cliff) Whitmore, and brother Wes (Jill) Minchey. He is preceded in death by his mother Betty Minchey, brother Michael Minchey, sister Karen Vatne, and grandson Daniel Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 22, 2023 at the Woods Cross 13th Ward Chapel, 1509 W 1500 S, Woods Cross, UT. A viewing will be held that morning 9:30 – 10:30 am prior to the services at the church. I used to see Bob quite often shopping at Smith’s in Bountiful. We always had fun and interesting discussions about family and work that lasted several minutes. We didn’t socialize except at family reunions, but I always considered him to be a great cousin.
My prayers and love to his family,
Cheryl

Little brother, I can't believe this is happening.! I have so many, many fond memories of you. You were always good to me in spite of the ups and downs on our life's journey together. Childhood memories are vividly replayed in my memory. I remember the day Dad and Mom brought you home. What a cute baby boy! It was a special opportunity to work alongside you and the rest of our family members at Mountain States Construction. Precious memories of time spent at the cabin soothe my aching heart. I am so thankful we got to raise our children together. I will sorely miss our longwinded birthday calls. You were supposed to come retire with us riding the side by sides! This is all too surreal. I know you're in a good place and I know I will see you again. Take care, little brother. I love you forever and always.
