Robert Lee Chambers was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and a devoted husband to his eternal companion, Sharon. He passed from this life on July 23, 2024. He was born in his grandparents' home in Grace, Idaho on 26 February 1938 to Orange Warner Chambers and Beulah Titus Chambers.
His family moved to San Diego, California when he was two years old and he had a happy life growing up with family, friends and wonderful church leaders in the San Diego area. He loved his brothers, Richard (deceased) and Roger, who currently lives in La Mesa. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1961, with a major in Zoology and a minor in Chemistry. He was scheduled to attend graduate school in the fall but was drafted into the United States Army that summer. He received basic training at Fort Ord, California and was then deployed to the Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute in Bethesda, Maryland.
He met his wife, Sharon Marks, a little southern girl from Arkansas, in the fall of 1959 at BYU; they dated until he graduated. While serving in Maryland, he long-distance proposed to her and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on May 25, 1962 - on the day she graduated from BYU.
Their first home was in Silver Spring, Maryland where they lived until he finished his Army requirement, at which time they moved to San Diego to begin their family. He worked for the County of San Diego; for the City of San Diego as a chemist; as the Director of the County of San Diego's Encinitas Environmental Laboratory; and the Director of the San Elijo Environmental Laboratory. They returned to Brigham Young University for Robert to begin studies for a Master's Degree in Biology and Entomology from January 1967 through July 1968. His Master's Thesis was recognized as the best in the college of Biology and Agriculture Sciences. They resided in La Mesa from July 1968 to September 2002. Robert worked for Environmental Engineering Laboratory in July 1968; after the owner died, he purchased the laboratory in September 1968, where he served as the Director until 2002.
They were called to serve in the Senior Missionary Department at the Church Office Building in Salt Lake City from September 2002 to April 2004. Robert and Sharon served four missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including a public affairs mission in the Europe West Area from January 2005 to July 2006. Living and serving in London, England was a highlight experience for them.
Robert has served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life - beginning as a young married man serving in the Elder's Quorum Presidency in Bethesda, Maryland, and continuing his church service for two bishops as counselor, as stake president, as counselor in the California San Diego Mission Presidency, as Director of the Multi-stake San Diego Family History Library, as high councilor, and as branch president to Headquarters missionaries serving in Salt Lake City.
He loved building and remodeled a home for his family and built two other beautiful homes for them in La Mesa. He also built homes for two of his children. He loved traveling the world and our beautiful country with Sharon, the children, grandchildren, and friends. He loved his family with all his heart. He loved all BYU sports and cried a lot of blue tears some of the years and carried a lot of BYU-blue
pride on other years.
He was a wonderful father to four outstanding children: Eric (Renee), Michael (Renae), Robyn Carr (Robert-deceased), and Cheryl Deacon (Robert). He was Grampie to 17 of the best grandchildren ever: Lauren Carr Snow (Dan), Natasha Deacon Palma (Nefi), Hope Carr, Spicer Carr, JR Chambers (Brooklyn), Trevor Deacon, Brandon Chambers, Daniel Deacon, Titus Carr, Amanda Chambers, Brittney Chambers, Elder Benjamin Chambers, Isabella Deacon, Isaac Chambers, Jackson Carr, Dylan Chambers, and Lydia Chambers; and had four beautiful great-grandchildren: London, Juliet, Gwyneth, and Fawkes Snow.
It's been a beautiful life filled with many blessings and much love. He wrote in his life story: "I have had a happy, fulfilling life - blessed beyond measure - and have seen the hand of God in all aspects of my life and the joy it brings me every day." He loved the Savior and His gospel with all his heart. He wanted his family to know that his greatest desire was to have all of them together in eternity. He wrote to his family: "I love each of you and appreciate your unique personalities, your individualism, your talents, and your love for Sharon and me." We love him with all our heart and will miss the Big Cheese of our family, his big heart, his ever cheerful smile, and his many great stories.

Sorry to hear about Bob’s passing. I’ll always consider him one of the best Sacrament speakers. I was shocked to read Sharon and Bob first lived in Silver Spring, MD as that’s my birthplace — small world! I wish you all comfort & peace at this time. — shanna

Rebeca and I were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our beloved brother, Robert Lee Chambers. Please accept our most heartfelt condolences and know our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this profoundly challenging time.
Although we didn’t have the opportunity to know Brother Robert Lee Chambers as closely as we would have liked, we can envision his extraordinary life, characterized by dedication, compassion, and unshakable faith in the Lord. His legacy of love and service to his family and community will endure as a testament to the remarkable life he lived, embodying the teachings of Jesus Christ.
During moments of loss, we are reminded of the eternal truths our Savior, Jesus Christ, taught about life, death, and the promise of resurrection. May you find solace in the assurance of our Heavenly Father's plan of salvation and the reunion it promises us with our loved ones. We pray that you and your family will feel the comforting embrace of our Heavenly Father during this time of mourning and that the Holy Spirit will bring you peace and understanding.
We are reminded, especially in such moments, that our Heavenly Father is intimately familiar with the pain of loss. He has assured us, "Blessed are they that mourn, for they shall be comforted." (Matthew 5:4; 3 Nephi 12:4). May this divine promise bring you peace during this tender time.
