I remember as a young child sitting and listening to Bob play his guitar and sing us songs. He was always so nice and I never seen him frown. He always had a hug for us kids. He will be truly missed! My sincere condolences to his family.... love you all!!

Obituary
Robert A Martinez, age 75, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 3, 2026 in Salt Lake City, UT. Known as Bob, uncle Bobby, cuz, or Papa Smurf.... Bob was born on June 2, 1951 in Ogden, UT to Lucille Martinez and Fernando Mercado. He married Dianne Lee Brown in Evanston, Wyoming. His family, friends, music, and silly magic were his life. He was known for his hugs and his jokes, no matter how silly or inappropriate. There wasn't a single person he met that he didn't forge a truly genuine love and friendship with. He was always there for you no matter who you were. He was, without a doubt, one of the kindest human beings to ever walk this Earth. He is missed more than words can say.
Bob was survived by his spouse, Dianne and 3 children, son Roberto Jr (aka Beto), and daughters Dayna and Jennifer. Many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and nieces and cousins and nephews and friends and so many more.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, Fernando Mercado and Lucille Martinez; grandparents (who raised him), Sabino Martinez and Felicita Valdez.; sister, Linda, sister/aunt, Rose Campbell, and many others who he loved so much.
A viewing will be held at Larkin Mortuary: 260 E South Temple, in Salt Lake on Saturday, October 10, 2026 from 6 pm to 8 pm.

Robert looks very familiar to me, and I want to say he may have worked in my section at the Delta Center when I attended Jazz and Mammoth games. If I’m mistaken, please forgive me. Either way, please accept my sincere condolences to Robert’s family and friends during this difficult time.
My grandpa was a man full of love and happiness , one of my favorite memories is of him playing brown eyed girl and substituting sha la la for shelisa . I miss him more than words can ever say!
I met Bob back when his daughter Dayna competed in a singing competition we became friends. Bob was a fantastic musician and loved playing his guitar. About 6 years ago Bob asked me to join his band New Strings as a singer and I happily accepted. He was always telling jokes and fun stories as well as the quarter from the toilet prank which I fell for. He was a good friend, bandmate and will be dearly missed.
