Robert Reed Webber

1935 ~ 2025

Robert Reed Webber of Carmel, Indiana, passed away peacefully due to natural causes, surrounded by family, on February 4, 2025. He was in his 90th year.

Bob Webber was born October 6, 1935, in Mount Vernon, NY, to Robert Irvine Webber and Hilda Maurine Bell Webber. He graduated from Bronxville (NY) High School in 1953 and attended Duke University and Brigham Young University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology. In 1957, Bob married Barbara Kay Brockbank, whom he met when they both worked at the Grand Canyon. After graduation and a stint at Shell Oil Company in Chicago, IL, Bob worked in New York City as a manufacturer’s representative. He considered himself an “old-fashioned peddler,” not an executive, and would often say “solve a problem for someone on the other side of the desk and you’ll have a customer – and a friend – for life.”

Bob and Kay were avid travelers, visiting all seven continents and over one hundred countries, often accompanied by one or more children. However, Bob was also content to stay home and enjoy a bowl of popcorn and a glass of chocolate milk while watching a classic movie, MASH episode, Bugs Bunny cartoon or Yankee game with his children. Bob was cheerful and optimistic, and was known for a whimsical sense of humor, a warm smile and a listening ear.

Through the years, Bob served extensively in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in several positions ranging from Scoutmaster to Bishop to member of a Stake Presidency and a Mission Presidency. He was a dedicated home teacher – visiting up to 18 different families each month, and a devoted youth leader - serving hundreds of young men and women living in the New York City area. Bob and Kay also served together as senior missionaries for the Church in South Africa. After their mission, they established the Brockbank Education Fund to assist young South African women further their education.

Bob was a devoted father, who attended countless sporting events, served as high school class parents (twice), and donated time and resources to support his children, their schools and local communities in Mt. Kisco, NY and Chappaqua, NY. He was beloved by his children and their friends, who were always welcome in the Webber home. From a young age, Bob collected miniature toy soldiers, baseball autographs, military insignias, HO scale model trains, Native American art, and quirky hats, which he often used to create “legendary” Halloween costumes.

After Kay’s untimely death at the age of 68, Bob re-connected with Nan Tobin MacLean, a childhood friend from Bronxville (NY), whose husband had also passed away. Bob and Nan married in October 2006 and spent nearly 20 years together. They lived primarily in Carmel, Indiana, and enjoyed travel, college football, IU basketball games, cultural events at the Carmel Palladium, dining in local restaurants, and sharing memories of Bronxville experiences.

Bob is survived by his wife Nan, her children Kim (Mike) Ramey and Marge (Steve) Haigh, and Bob and Kay’s children Rob (Nora), David (Cecilia), Jon (Jen), Nancy, Elizabeth (Eric) Mostoller, twenty-six grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and Bob’s older brother, Dr. William B. Webber of Tucson, Arizona. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and Kay.

A private family service was held at Flanner Buchanan Mortuary in Carmel, Indiana on February 8, 2025, and a celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Saturday, February 22 at 11 AM at Larkin Sunset Gardens (1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd, Sandy, Utah). Interment will be at the Spanish Fork Cemetery (420 South 400 East, Spanish Fork, Utah 84660) on February 22 at 2 PM (Mountain time). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Brockbank Education Fund. Please visit www.befcharity.org.

Rob and Nora-So very sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad, Rob. He sounds like a very unique and special man! (Wow, you look JUST LIKE him in some of the photos!). Dear Rob, David, Jon, Nancy and Elizabeth,
We want you to know how much we admired your dad. He was an amazing person!! As bishop of the Kitchawan Branch, he was kind, loving and most of all "FUN"!!! As a teenager, I thought he was "cool". I knew he sincerely cared about me. When I worked for your dad, I could not have asked for a better employer! Your dad had a very tangible Christ-like love for his fellow men and women. You could sense that about him. We were privileged to have known him!!
We wish you comfort and peace at this difficult time and from all the wonderful memories you have of your dad.
All our love,
Suzanne & Mark Nolan

Dear Rob, David, Nancy and Elizabeth,
Our family will never forget the fun times we had with you and your family and so many from Westchester NY and Connecticut at the beach houses in Ocean City, Maryland. Those were great years and your mom and dad were the catalyst that got us all together. We loved every minute at the beach and the many fun activities we enjoyed including fishing for flounder, riding got carts, going to the amusement park, church meetings and eating together. Your Mom and Dad were great people and we shall look forward to seeing them on the other side of the veil.
With fond memories and sympathy The Heilesen Family Henry, Renee (deceased), Hank, Lori, Todd, Celeste and Stacey.

Our memories of Bob & Kay are some of our most favorite recollections of our twenty years in Connecticut. We served together, played together, worshipped together and did a lot of laughing and joking together. He was so fun to be around and you could always feel how much he loved Kay. I remember the year we introduced Bubble Yum he took me aside and said “thanks for making this year such a successful business year for me”. He then told me that his company supplied the “filler” ingredient for Bubble Yum. He was the best! We love you Bob and look forward to our reunion.
