Robert Sidney Adair III

1932 ~ 2023

Robert Sidney Adair III (Bob) was born in 1932 to Robert Sidney Adair II and Mabel Blossom Jones in San Antonio, Texas. He grew up in Boerne, Texas with his brother Thomas where they learned and tinkered with machinery, spent the days outside, and got into trouble. He then joined the US Navy, and while stationed in Japan in the early 1950’s, he met and married the love of his life, Katherine Kyoko Shibuya.

Bob leaves a wonderful legacy of kindness, service, and laughter.

He served in the Navy for a short time before transitioning to the Air Force. He retired after 26 years of military service. He then worked in the US Civil Service for many years until he finally retired. He served in Korea, Vietnam, the Middle East, and various other assignments.

Bob served in various positions within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints. These included several missions with his sweetheart, one of them in the Tokyo, Japan temple. He and Kay also served for many years at the Sandy Senior Center (Utah). Now, he and his sweetheart can move on together in service to others. Bob was much-loved by all who knew him.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Kay, his parents, and his brother, Thomas. Bob is survived by two children, Robin McConkie-Ward (Randy) and Robert Sidney Adair IV (Susan), six (wonderful) grandchildren, and many (exceptional) great-grandchildren. Also surviving him is his sister-in-law, Mrs. Christine Adair, and a niece, and a nephew.

Many thanks to long-time friends, Vern and Debi Johnson and Larkin Mortuary. A viewing will take place at Larkin Sunset Gardens (1950 E 10600 S, Sandy, UT 84092) on Thursday, August 31st, 2023 from 6-8:00 p.m. A graveside memorial will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens on Friday, September 1st, at 12:00 p.m. noon.

Robin, my most sincere condolences to you in the passing of your father. It is always hard to lose someone close to you but I know you are a strong woman and will survive his passing. The best to you and yours and stay strong.

I know that Bob really thought I was beyond exceptional & one of his best friends, or at least that he how he made me feel EVERY time he saw me. I have a feeling that countless others felt beyond exceptional & his best friend too, because he genuinely felt that way about all of us. His wife Kay and I share a birthday, September 3rd and often he would say, only really special people are born on Sept 3rd, cause Kay was the most special & its no accident that you were both born on that day. What a compliment, right? Thank you Brother Adair for making me feel loved and extra special when in your presence.
Love, Kaydee Rasmussen

How can you not love a guy who hands out candy to everyone. Bob, I’m sure the angels will love the candy too, especially since now you have joined them!

Bob was the real deal. He was genuine and loved his family. His passing leaves a hole in the family. But his legacy will continue. I will miss his humor and his great example. Till we meet again.
